wireless internet networking (unable to rewrite ip address)

Question

ok i just got my new xps m140 my wireless networking statue is 'problem rewnewing ip address' i have a airport(mac) wireless internet router(is this the problem that its a mac) i connected with the signal throught the intel proset/wireless icon on the task bar and it says that the 'network i named' signal is exelent or very good. what can i do to fix this.   ive tryed(friends helped) doing a run>cmd>ipconfig/release, ipconfig/renew and it said error cant connect   thanks for any help sorry i didnt know where to post this theres no modem section for this xps   ok i just read the airport thing and it looks like thats not the problem here this its what i have   http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/71807/wo/K7HPaJXK17Mf2hhwe0K2oJX0y0y/1.SLID?mco=D0D3169D&nplm=M8799LL%2FA   sorry dell its a mac, DELL RULES my girl just got it for her old notebook   DELL RULES(please help me i dont like macs its not me...)

It should be able to connect to the airport just fine. Is the Airport wireless network a secure network (i.e. does it have encryption enabled)? Does the Airport have MAC address filtering enabled so that it will only connect to network devices speicified in a table of allowed MAC addresses? Do you have any firewalls running that may be misconfigured to block access?

i dont think there is any pc address filter i belive this pc desktop is running of the port as well as a mac laptop. This means nothing if both have been allowed to access the network on the route and your new computer has not been allowed.  Thinking doesn't cut it - you have to be sure.    no firewall All new Dell computers come with either Norton Internet Security or McAfee Security Suite.  Both have firewalls.   Steve

1.ok theres a cable coming out of the back of the desktop running right into the airport. if you would like a pictur i might be able to scratch one up.

2. ive disabled all firewalls, not as if there doing anything. heeehe

that MAC brings something up
i did a run>cmd>ipconfig and it said that the media was dsabled but my friend siad that it was for wire connection.
also this MAC ca i change the settings somehow on the mac or pc?
or do i just have to "refresh" cause there installed or learned...?...

MAC address filetering has nothing to do with wired connections on most routers. It is to prevent unauthorized computers from accessing the wireless network. It also has nothing to do with Apple Mac computers. MAC stands for Media Access Control.

You can write in green, but I can't read it very well on this background, so I'll stop reading it so as to not hurt my eyes.

Have you tried resetting the router to its default settings by pressing and holding in the reset button. That will disable all MAC address filtering and any other security settings on the router, setting it back to its default settings.

The MAC address filtering is setting on the router. If you reset the router, then it will be disabled. If you want to enable it again, you will have to determine the MAC address of the wireless network adapters that will be allowed on the network and enter them in a table on the Airport router. Before doing that, see if the network works after the router has been reset to its factory settings.

ok i called dell...

they said that it could be the fact that i have a 64 incript on the airport. and i need 128 for pc. so im trying to fix the problem by changing the "password" from 5 letters to 13.

i have a good feeling about this. oh and i tryed re booting it and still no service. ill let you know how it goes. thanks for all your help.

case: I have a dell desktop a dell laptop(xps) and a ibook laptop(mac) the xps could not connect to the airport extream(mac) throught the intell proset wireless network.

heres a good tip. talk to someone who knows there stuff. call dell or post here

my problem was solved by either 3 ways.

1. called dell and they had me set up a hard line cable conection first.

2. make sure your airport password in wep enabled and 128 encripted. you can do this by changing the settings throught you mac computer see apple suport for details on changing password if need.

3. my problem was, i think i had the connection set to open when infact its under shared. oops somthing i didn't know but probaly should have. try fooling around with every setting possable, time consuming yes but when you talk to dell people they might not and problay dont know your apple setting(probaly meaning they just dont know what you set it to, the are smart!)

also when using 128 make sure your password is 13 letters or #'s
