Wireless network and Dell Photo AIO printer

I have purchased a Netgear FWG114P router with printer port.  I have an Inspiron 1200 and a 2200 and a Dell Photo AIO 922 printer.  The printer USB cable is plugged into the USB printer port on the router.  Everthing works fine for the wireless network except the printer.  I have set up the printer as per instructions but when I print to it the little screen at the bottom right of the screen appears telling me what percentage of the document has been printed.  It goes very slowly apparently taking minutes to send one page.  The printer light on the router flashes away but the printer does nothing.  Any ideas?

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I'm pretty sure that your Dell printer is incompatible with your Netgear AP/Print Server. Have a look at the Netgear compatibility list: http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/N101216.asp, especially the list of printers known to be incompatible (at the end of the document). :smileysad:

Many thanks.  If only I had seen that page!  Still is not a disaster as the rest does work.

Just as a matter of interest is there a router with print port that supports the Dell Photo AIO 922 printer?

I don't know for sure, but it's very unlikely. There is a whole class of printers that won't work on a network print server of any description, and I'm afraid yours is likely to be one of them.  It's not just a Netgear issue.

I got caught the same way with my HP LaserJet 1000w when I got a Netgear WGPS606 wireless print server. As the whole point of getting the print server was to stop having to share the LaserJet via a PC, I ended up buying a new HP LJ1160 printer, which is advertised as being "network-ready" and works perfectly on the WGPS606. Our photo printer, a Canon iP90, also works fine on it (100% luck rather than judgement!).

Note that as a general rule you don't get much in the way of status reporting from any printer on a print server.

So in summary I'd say your options are: get a new printer, or put the printer on one of your PCs and share it.
