Once the internet connection was working on both computers, there was and is no need to run the network setup wizard. Often times the wizard just messes things up because the way the questions are worded, people often provide the wrong answers.
It is not clear from your message, but it seems to imply that computer 1 is connected to the router by a wired ethernet connection. Why are you asking if you need to install another adapter card? You only would need two adapter cards if you are using Internet Connection Sharing. Internet Connnection Sharing is not used with a router, and if it is enabled, then it is sure to mess up networking if used with a router. If the wizard enabled Internet Connection Sharing on any of the computers, make sure that it is disabled.
The most common reasons that File and Printer Sharing doesn't work are (1) File and Printer Sharing is not installed or enabled. (2) Drives/Folders/Printers have not been enabled. And (3) Firewalls are blocking local network traffic.
On any computer running Windows XP with SP1, disable the Windows XP firewall. It will not allow File and Printer Sharing. On computers running Windows XP with SP2, make sure that the Windows XP firewall has File and Printer Sharing checked off on the Exceptions tab. If you are running any third party firewalls, like those provided by such programs as Zone Alarm, Norton Internet Security, or McAfee Security Center, make sure they are configured to allow local network traffic.
I just purchased and installed a new Windows XP Pro Dim 8400 with 1450 Dell WLAN USB card and I have Cox broadband high speed internet. I have an existing Linksys wireless network in the house with two other dimensions 8200 and 4500 win xp home with linksys wireless cards. The network works fine. My problem is that my new dim 8400 can log on to the internet through the existing network, but I am having a problem seeing/viewing/connecting to the other computers (d8200 and d4500 xp home edition). I also want the new dim 8400 to print to the existing printer connected to the dim8200. I know I'm asking a lot but can someone please help me. I am not very experienced with the various network settings necessary to make the new d8400 connect and map to the other networked compters. Someone please help. Anyone. This a great forum. Thanks in advance for this forum.
