I have noticed that when I restart the router, the Wireless list comes one, but goes out when the power light is lit. That also happens when the router is reset when I am adjusting it through the Control Utility.
Something else that I have noticed is that my parents PC goes through the router to the Internet just find. The router can be controled through their PC, but the Wireless light is just not on for the router. Thus, no networking for the laptop. This is really frustrating.
I had a similar problem with my 8600 wireless. I eventually called my router (2Wire-SBC) tech person. All I had to do was go into properties for the wireless connection and enter the keycode found on the bottom of the router - reboot - and everything worked fine.
I have had to do this a couple of times when bringing my laptop into the house network. A little frustrating, but not so bad that I won't do it. I can be anywhere in the house or yard.
Actually, when I was at one end of our house trying to log onto our network, I was so close to the neighbor's house that I was given a choice of two networks - mine and his - to log onto. One more reason to have a good firewall.
I was not sure which number from the bottom of the router you were talking about. I entered the MAC address, rebooted my PC and the router with nothing changing. If I used the incorrect number and put it in the wrong place, please let me know so I can fix it. I appreciate your help.
On my router the number is the only number in brackets [ ] - an eight digit number. I entered that number in the "network key" space. In Windows XP this is found by right-clicking the small connection icon in the lower right of your quicklaunch toolbar - choose "View Available Wireless Networks" - make sure "Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication" is NOT checked - click okay - then reboot.
If that doesn't work - once I had to (on the same screen it says, "if you are having problems connecting") click advanced - I chose the wireless connection and configured or refreshed it ( I don't remember which) - clicked okay and it worked.
Your router may be different - call the router tech support person - they can tell you how to get yours going.
Gosh - it seems like your Dell router to your Dell computer should be pretty simple. The 8600 is my first Dell product so I won't be much help with Dell set-up. A quick look at tech info might provide answers for you.
Thanks again for the help. Looking at the bottom of my Dell TrueMobile 2300 Wireless Broadband Router, I see the following numbers, Model, DS/N, DP/N, MAC, FCC ID, IC, SCT and my service information. If you could help and clarify which number you used, that would be very helpful.
If the 2300 setup page that controls whether the wireless works is turn off shows it is enabled (wireless turned on), then the 2300 has failed and you need Dell to replace it. I would recommend just getting your money back and then getting a D-Link, Linksys, or Netgear.
