Wireless router working, but no internet connection?

I hope someone can give me a lead, I'm about at my wits end! I've had my Truemobile wireless network set up for over two years- I have the 1184 wireless router attached to my HP Pavilion, and my Inspiron is networked with the 1150 LAN adapter. Everything's been running fine until this morning when I replaced my old cable modem with a new RCA (digital) one.

If I connect my cable ethernet directly into the computer, I have internet access just fine. I'm also getting a great signal between my router and the laptop, so I know that part of the router is functional. When I run the cable signal through the router, I lose the internet connection entirely. If I hover the pointer over the router icon it says Router: connected; ISP: not connected

I spoke with the ISP to verify that I had the isp settings correct, and they said that my router isn't converting a signal correctly and to call the manufacturer. I have no clue what they're talking about and following the "trouble shooting" tips from the router manual make no difference. I've reset the box. I've checked the ethernet cords. Unplugged the router for X seconds, unplugged the cable modem. Restarted the computer. I have no idea what to try next.

Does anyone have any idea what to try next? Thanks in advance!

Cable modems only find out who to talk to when they are powered on.  So it may be the modem doesn't know the router is there.  Power off both the modem and router.  Power on the modem, let it negotiate with the ISP, and when the leds show it is connected and active, power on the 1184 and let it negotiate.  When all leds show they are connected and talking, try getting to the internet again.  If it still doesn't work, go to Best Buy and get the D-Link DI-524 54mb "g" router that is $20 after rebates this week.  The 1150 should work with it fine.  Life is too short.

LOL, John, that is exactly what I just did- I went to Best Buy and bought a new router, and I plugged it in and it worked just fine!

The funny part is that the Dell tech I chatted with this morning had me clear the Windsock and eventually told me that it was my computer's wirless card. In four hours of tech support with three different companies, I couldn't get anyone to just tell me that buying a new router might work :D

It is funny that the only answer that would work is the one I got after I'd done it, Thanks again!
