wireless routing
I have a dimension 4600 with broadband internet connection.I would like to setup a wireless router to my daughters compac computer in her bedroom so she can share my internet connection.but I do not know what all I need to hook it up. if someone can help this computer challenged dad I would sure appreciate it please list everything I need to hook her to the internet so I can have my computer back! thank you in advance reg102866

So long as your broadband modem connects by ethernet and is not a USB-only modem, then you need (1) a wireless router and (2) a wireless network card for the Compac computer. The wireless network card can either be a USB wireless network adapter or a PCI card. You might want to look at the following sites to make yourself more familiar with networking:

As a fellow computer challenged dad, I can relate to the uncertainty.
Just last night, I installed a Linksys wireless router (WRTG - on sale for $60) and a Linksys Wireless G USB network adapter (WUSB54G - sale for $40). Took about 30 minutes to set up (probably would've been shorter, but I was clueless), but then I spent another 30 minutes to hide the wireless network behind WEP encryption. I had no clue on that, either, but it was easy.
Already sat on the front porch this morning with a laptop while son played on nick.com inside.
Well worth it. The advice people gave me was to buy a good router for good range. NetGear and Linksys were the names that came up most. After tax, only about $108.
