WLAN 1450 compatibility problems with Verizon VZAccess Manager
I have a Latitude D600 with WinXp Pro SP2, a Dell Wireless 1450 Dual Band WLAN Mini-PCI Card and latest flash bios and drivers. Recently, I got a subscription to the Verizon wireless broadband access using the Audiovox PC5740 pc card.
The Verizon broadband works ok, but every time I exited the Verizon connection, the Dell computer would lock up. Really lock up. So only a hard reset and reboot would get things working again. After some trial and error, it seems that the Verizon VZAccess Manager client had something to do with this problem.
Since hard-rebooting the computer after every VZAccess Manager disconnection seemed very inconvenient, I experimented further and found a work-around. It is necessary to go into the WinXp Hardware Driver Manager -> network ->dell 1450 wireless and disable the dell 1450 wireless device before starting the Verizon VZAccess Manager "Connect". After the VZAccess Manager is disconnect, the Dell 1450 WLAN driver can be enabled again, and it is not necessary to reboot the computer.
I contact Verizon tech support to inquire about this problem, and as expected, they blamed the Dell driver. I contact Dell wireless support, and they had no information on this problem, and no information about compatibiilty with the Verizon VZAccess Manager. Seems strange since both the Dell and Verizon seem to be widely used. Although I can reproduce this problem 100%, maybe it is just my local problem? Does anyone have any similar experience or insight?
Thanks.
