Rick, Thanx for the answer... How do ί get to that ? ?  i have no internet access whatsoever due to this issue!! ?? (Saw it has happened to others as well!!  McAfee is NO help ... was hoping to get them (or maybe Dell to remote access my computer and fix problem!?? is it a McAfee issue - (happened when downloading the Mcafee program) or- is it a Dell issue??

Some people use a flash drive to do this. Try using an ethernet cable, it should connect, unless you recently installed/reinstalled the oeprating system.

 

You can try, start, control panel, device manager, network adapters, double click on the Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Half Mini Card, click on advanced. Look for Antenna Diversity and change it from Auto to Aux.

 

Restart the computer.

 

If it doesn't connect, then make a system restore point and uninstall McAfee using the McAfee Removal Tool

 

Restart the computer and try to conect.

Power off your ISP modem/router and your wireless router(if any) for 30 seconds. Then power on the ISP modem/router. Wait 15 seconds, then power on the wireless router(if any)

Restart the computer and try to connect.

What happens?

Rick, hey! . . . (ahaha, only 2-years later and still have same issue!) I am wondering if You are still available to (hopefully?) assist here--- -(?)- I have found that it appears the problem to be worse than I originally thought! Ran diagnostic/troubleshoot and received this message >> *The Network Adapter Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card is experiencing Driver or Hardware Related Issues* /// …so, after further troubleshooting, (the network adapter Drivers) it's been found that➺  "The best driver software for your device is already installed "

-&- "The driver software is UP TO DATE"   ( Ȧ Hardware Issue? 0ℏ no?!!…I'ѵe finally have Run the "system info" >per your instructions— (hoping you, if still available, here … can confirm and help find solution?)  Computer (Dell Inspiron 1545) will not connect via WiFi, or, αs I just found out won’t connect via Ethernet-?(which I now have)---thinking the computer was only not pulling the signal outta air, I decided to connect using Ethernet cable, but this, too, has failed! waaaaa !! And, upon troubleshooting … receive the above *message* regarding "hardware related issues" . . . Hey—and thank you for attempting this . . . It's been v. v. challenging problems for me - - - I am running Windows Defender (& Antivirus?) … this whole thing began, when I was attempting to download McAfee AntiVirus, and it had to "uninstall" settings to "install" it's program — but then, it didn't complete --- (ugh) . . . I see the network adapter is not listed.

First I would download the McAfee Removal Tool and run it, then restart your computer.

Download the Dell Wireless WLAN 397/1510 Half MiniCard Driver and save it to your desktop.

Start, control panel, device manager.

Do you see any yellow exclamation marks or red x's? If yes, right click on them and remove the problem devices. If prompted, tell it to remove the software and drivers, then restart your computer.

When you login, then new hardware wizard may try to install the adapter but fail. Install the drivers you saved to your desktop. After the install if the system still does not show the wireless adapter, try looking at these places to see if your Connection is enabled

Let me know the results. If you run the system info, see if the network adapters appear.

Hey RICK … um locked out of my Dell Account --- (need to sign-in to D/L the drivers?) … so um stuck, (for now---& it's 1:20 am --- gotta call it ȧ night! . . .

   —hey, jw… if You'd be able to Remote Access my computer to help here? ( I trust ʏα! )—but, that's Your choice…gosh, I'ѵe already taken up nuff of Your Time! (( v. v. grateful, btw!! ◡̈⃝ )) … or won’t that make a diff since um "locked out" ?  . . . Ok, am exhausted from this, and I want my computer back!!  ( am hopeful, w/your assistance, anyway!!  . . . kA, well I got to the D/L page for drivers … but like I said, it appears (?) can’t D/L w/Ø logging in to Dell . . . (& is a bit of ADS on my internet that I get hesitant WHO's site to trust, after that Microsoft scam! Luckily I didn't fall for it---but did have malware and D/L'd program to remove it (which is now expired! )  waiting to hear what you have to say next — thanx much again!!  ◟̽◞̽

pss - i just remembered --- when previously running Windows Network Diagnostics ... the  other results I would get would say "Windows did not find any problems with your internet connection" ...  i imagine thats probable when I'd be "tethered" to the internet via my iPhone ... bc right now that is the *only* way I can connect my dell to the internet ---    :((

just thought I'd let ya know that ( dont know if it matters? ) and if anything else, please let me know!  Thank you a thousand times for your time and helping with this --- ( seems its a problem not unique to me, and that there are others that have experienced same --- any reason as to what has caused this?  jw!  t/y again!!

hey Rick ---

i followed your steps ... (not sure I d/l the right 'driver' info ? i used the link you set) anyway the driver still has the ! by it ... so heres what I did next :

(and have ? in # 4a " right click and remove the problem devices" did you mean  "disable" or "uninstall" them ( since not sure, i "disable" them - all but the Dell WLAC 1397 Mini-Card ) 

ones "disabled" are (these 4) :

then i did "update driver software" (bc after following your instructions, the yellow ! was still there ... so after the driver download --(via the link...per your instructions)-- the file was on my desktop, so i  went into the device (DELL WIRELESS WLAN 1397 MINI-CARD) and told it to search (on computer/desktop)  for 'updated driver info' ... after this, the Results were :

The best driver software for your device is already installed

Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date

DELL WIRELESS 1397 WLAN MINI CARD

(it has, in the past, gone back and forth telling me 1-the above, same (best -driver- software installed) or 2-that i need to update -?- cant remember, exactly - but if was confusing because it would tell me both that best software is installed -and- then that (basically) it is not... when I run "diagnostics" for the "network" i get this:  "THE NETWORK ADAPTER DELL WIRELESS 1397 WLAN MINI-CARD IS EXPERIENCING DRIVER OR HARDWARE RELATED ISSUES" ... (however, I havent run it since i followed your steps ... - should I?) i went ahead and re-ran "systeminfo"

hoping you'll have some good news this time ... (if i need to run your steps again, please let me know, I feel like I did somethine wrong?) . . . (also, do you know of any free malware software? I seem to have a small problem there, (among others) but the WLAN is by far, the worst ---( i checked my malware following fbi.gov and fearing the worst, I think I am ok there! whew! --- yep, it appears to be pretty bad! i used "malwarebytes anti-malware" but that was only a trial, and it has now expired, so when you get a chance, if you know of any "security" related software I might need to download . . .  well, I guess (sorry) lets take one-step-at-a-time---and omg--- i cant-wait until this-is-fixed!! !! Also, i cant thank you enough for your assistance!!  :D  many many thanks!

Crazy.Janey,

Let's try a different approach.

Download and install in this exact order, a restart will be needed between installs.

Dell System Software Utility

Then download and install Dell QuickSet.
Places to look to see if your Connection is enabled
Not sure if I asked what virus program you're using.

( think my Anti-Virus is thru the Dell Security-(?)-  Should it be off during these downloads? ( or on ? )

…not sure why I thought to ask---I guess my thought is— would ( or could ) the AntiVirus prevent them from d/L-ing/Installing? … ( also, my "wireless" internet that I just had installed, has security programs -(that I haven't d/L-installed Yet … well, just gonna roll w/it as-is, and spose if an issue presents … well, will deal w/it at the time - - - t/y!!

hi Rick  ... followed the above instructions exactly, restarting after each download ....

seems still no luck --- a m getting message about Flash needing updated (but i dont trust websites these days! BUT could THAT have anything to do with not being able to download any of these correctly?  just a thought?  connection still has yellow ! and below are systeminfo Results :
