on the 2 dells i have i cant seem to get higher then 11mbps. i did update the 2200bg driver on the 9300 laptop. the dell inspiron 1000 cant get past 11 either. i used to be able to get 24 or 35. what is wrong.

i forgot to add that we have a cordless 2.4 gighz home phone. can this cause problems if used or just being charged on the hook. if its the phone causing these problems the phone will go through the window :smileyvery-happy:

Any 2.4GHz phone will cause issues with standard 802.11b or g wireless systems as they operate in the same frequency ranges, but they should only interfere when the phone is being used.  Other options are to switch to 5GHz phones which operate at higher frequency ranges and won't interfere with the computer wireless equipment.

Also, the WRT54G is considered a compact or "travel" wireless router and the internal antenna doesn't have the power of a normal household wireless router, so the distance of your laptops from the router may also be an issue.

You might consider getting the high-gain antenna for the router to help increase its transmit power and range.

im sorry to bug u but that link isnt working. also the wrt54g has 2 antennas on each side of the unit. i do pickup some neighbor at 54mbps but signal is weak (low) but im happy that his is at 54mbps :smileyvery-happy:

my dell 9300 is about 15ft from router through a wall. my sisters inspiron1000 is about 40ft through 2 walls from router. we cant get above 11mbps. so maybe i will go with the extended antenna or something. whatever that link sends me to. thanks again. please help me getting that link to work

finally i got it to work. i moved the 2 antennas on the router pointing up instead of to the side towards the bedrooms. both dell laps are at 54mbps and wifi lite stays on excellent connection. the laptops see my printer in the other room and everything is working great. i can now print wireless from the yard. i should mark with a marker where the antennas are pointing somehow. i cant have them move or anything knock into them. Im soooooooooo happy its not even funny. well i dont need that link anymore thanks for everyones help here.
