XPS 12, targus docking station, wireless problem
hy,
I just bought a XPS 12 and a targus docking station. I have the problem that whenever I plug in the docking station to the XPS the wireless connection becomes unstable and more often then not I cant connect to my wireless internet connection (the computer recognises the connection but then is not able to connect to it). As soon as I unplug the targus docking station, wireless works fine.
I tried several driver updates as suggested in other posts but nothing seems to work.

Do not set the xps 12 on the docking station. When I set the XPS 12 on the docking station my Wi-Fi is degraded. If I leave the docking station connected and move the XPS 12 away from the docking station it starts seeing all the router around me. My assumption is that the docking station is radiating a signal that interferes with the Wi-Fi antenna on the laptop. The Wi-Fi antenna is located on the back left side of the laptop,.

After spending a year with this issue I find the problem is simply XPS 12 wifi module or driver conflicting with any adapter that offers external networking. I have a usb 3.0 hub with a wired networking port for travelling and the wifi also has problem when that is plugged without being connected to the dock. It has nothing to do with the placement of the laptop in relation to the dock as the wifi becomes unstable wherever you put it as long as it's plugged in. It's not a signal conflict but rather hardware or driver conflict issue.
Whatever it is Dell has no interest it seems in fixing it. However instead of sending it back I thought of a pretty simply solution that I can't believe it took me that long to realise. Just get an external wireless adapter for maybe $20, connect it to the dock and when the laptop is docked just use the wifi off that. Everything else works fine when docked and the XPS 12 wifi is fine on it's own. Problem solved!!
One thing I noticed with my Toshiba dock was that the USB Ports on the back didn't work well with the adapter and reduced the broadband speed (both USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports), however the ports on the front works fine and runs at full speed. So if you have the same issue when the adapter is connected, try different ports.

I'm using the Dell Superspeed USB 3.0 Dock and had connectivity problems, this solution worked for me.

It seems the issue has been resolved... ish so I'd like to clarify through my experience that the source of the WiFi interference is usb 3 and the Targus docking station.
On the XPS 15 I have 4 usb ports, 2 x usb3 on the left and 1x usb 3 + 1 x usb 2 on the right, I get no WiFi internet connection when plugging the docking station in any of the three usb 3 ports however the usb 2 port on the right hand side of the laptop works fine. This workaround is obviously not ideal so the other option is to use a usb 3 port but keep the laptop as far away as possible from the docking station, play around with the usb 3 ports and find out which one works best for you. I have found however that the WiFi connection is still faster using the usb 2 port. I wasted a lot of time sorting this out so I hope it saves others from going through the same process. Unfortunately I need the docking station because of the way I have my peripherals and multiple monitors set up otherwise I'd bin it.
