Hi Blackean,
I do apologize for the inconvenience which you are facing but in order to fix this problem first try to connect directly with the modem and uninstall wireless drivers. I
Please follow the below step instruction for uninstalling/ re installation of wireless drivers.
1. Click Start, type Device Manager in the Start search box and hit Enter.
2. Locate Network adapters and expand the same.
3. Select the wireless connection, right-click and select Uninstall.
4. Restart the computer, if prompted.
After that you have to install drivers from the link below:
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/DriverFileFormats/Product/xps-8500?DriverId=MMX1J&FileId=2952379602&urlProductCode=False
5) Moreover Change the IBSS channel number to 1, 6 or 11 - in the Advanced tab under the wireless card properties in Device Manager
Please do share the results.
Thanks & Regards

I am having a similar issue with a new XPS 8500, Just took delivery a few days ago. Connecting via Dell 1703 wireless card to a Cisco E3000 use 802.11g , and I lose connection frequently. It usually re-connects after a few minutes. I tried downloading the driver to re-install, but the install fails with the error "The installed cannot run on this platform. Please select package for your Operating System". I downloaded the driver using my systems Service Tag and the page indicates my OS (Windows 7 64 bit) correctly.
Very disappointing...

Hi,
Please let us know if the intermittent wireless connectivity is only on this laptop or you have experienced the same issue on other systems also. Please let us know how often it disconnects and when?
Before going through the process of uninstalling and reinstalling the wireless card try a few more steps given below:
1. Please check the distance between the router and the laptop, is it more than 30feet?
2. If you are using only 1 system on the wireless network, would recommend you to change the channel in the router.
To change the channel follow the steps below:
If the problem still remains, try to connect with your system in a different location and check the connectivity.
Please reply with the results.
Thanks and Regards
