Can I get some help, please?
Okay - sheer frustration made me post to these forums this morning and unfortunately I violated the terms of service and had my post removed. I understand why it was removed but I'm still desperate for help, so I'll try again.
I ordered a Dell desktop on 11/6/09 online. I didn't know it was going to take as long as it is to get the machine; otherwise I probably would have tried to purchase one locally, as I really need a new computer ASAP. So today I tried talking to customer service to find out the reason for the delay and got absolutely nowhere with them. It was truly an unbelieveable experience, something I was totally shocked about. When I ordered my last Dell seven years ago I had it in four days and have never had a single problem with customer service.
My biggest problem is that I just don't understand WHY there is such a delay - that's really all I was trying to find out, but no one could answer it. I could tell they were all reading from a script. Then when I asked to speak to someone else who COULD give me the answers I was seeking I was asked the same questions over and over again and then given the runaround only to be put on hold and just get in the queue for someone else to tell me the very same thing - nothing.
If someone could contact me privately to get my Purchase ID# or Order # or whatever it is that you need from me so that you can find out what the delay is, I would really appreciate it. I am in tears over this - you were quick to notify me that my post was deleted because I made an error in my frustration, yet no one has come forward to actually show me any type of customer service that Dell has been so famous for in the past.

Maybe one of the Dell Liaisons, will see your post and can assist you, but unfortunately this is primarily a 'User to User' forum, not 'User to Dell'.
You need to contact Dell directly about this, try using Order Support, HERE

Bev, before my latest order, I'd have sounded as loyal to Dell as you are, but unfortunately, "Order Support" is why most people end up posting here - lately they just run you around in circles.
Respectfully,
GC

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't have a case or reference #. They didn't even bother to give me one of those.
All I got was the brush-off.
They could not have cared less.

All I can say is "Wow. Just Wow." I had no idea. (unfortunately)
So far my order isn't delayed. I'm just aggravated because it's taking 3 weeks. Sounds like that's not that long compared to others. Of course, I may yet get a "delay" notice, at which point I will take the opportunity to cancel the order, since Dell's refund policy states that a delay will allow me to get a refund without any "restocking" penality. At least that's how I understand it.
Thanks for the feedback. I would try to send an email like Bev suggested but I'm inclined to believe that I'll just continue to get the runaround.

Thank you for the advice. I did that this morning.
Not too thrilled with my automated reply:
Your case is being routed to an Escalation Specialist for Dell Consumers.
Current service level for contact from an agent is 4 business days.
Contact from Escalation Specialists is made between 8am-5 pm CST, Monday - Friday (excluding holidays).
That's true Customer No-Service.
Unreal.
