Cannot send emails after updating McAfee

I am using the Windows Vista Home Premium 2007, updated with SP2 and updated with the latest McAfee protection.  I updated the McAfee in April 2009 and have not been able to send an email since. I have checked: McAfee setup, startup programs, Internet provider (U-Verse AT&T) email settings, restoring original settings , disabled Windows Defender, uninstalled McAfee to clean up old programs and then re-installed McAfee, did a Windows One Care Safety Scanner AND NOTHING WORKS! I still cannot send emails!!!  PLEASE HELP ME ASAP BEFORE I FLIP OUT!!! Any help is greatly appreciated! :)

I have McAfee 2009.  When you uninstalled McAfee, did you try to send an e-mail to see if it would work with McAfee uninstalled? and if you did, were you able to send?

The McAfee that I have also has a Firewall and if McAfee's firewall is not set to allow your email program to access the Web you won't be able to send.

To check McAfee (at least in the version I have), open McAfee Security Center then open Internet and Network.  Then click on Advanced for Firewall and finally Program Permissions in the Upper Left of the Panel.  Scroll through the list and if McAfee is set correctly your e-mail program will have "full access".  If your e-mail program is not listed or only has incoming only then that is the problem.  If it's listed and has full access then McAfee is not the problem.

If McAfee is not the problem, double check your account setup in the e-mail program and verify the outgoing server is listed EXACTLY as your ISP shows.

Thanks for your information.  When I was online with McAfee, it was determined that it was not McAfee that I couldn't send emails on my Windows Mail account.  We went though different steps to turn off McAfee and then try to send an email and it didn't work.  I have tried everything you suggested above numerous times and I still cannot send an email.  My email setup has been checked and is setup up exactly as my ISP shows.....still no luck sending emails.  Any other suggestions is greatly appreciated! :emotion-2:

The E-Mail program uses the access method that Internet Explorer uses.  I assume you have high speed (broadband) service and in the Internet Options/Connection panel (In Internet Explorer, click on Tools then Internet Options and finally the Connections Tab).  If you are using Broadband (DSL or Cable) then the Connections window should be blank.

However, since you apparently can receive e-mails that says the "incoming" E-Mail server and log on password is correct.  The only thing left is an error in the outgoing mail server.  It must be exactly, no spaces (if there are no spaces in the ISP's example) or a space if the ISP's example has one.  Same way with any extra characters and also check in case a number Zero was mistaken for the Letter "O" or vice versa.

I can't log on to AT&T to see what they show for the outgoing mail server.

Ok I checked the ISP setup again and actually re-entered the ISP information--this is the error message that comes up when I send an email:

Subject 'TESTING!!!!!', Account: 'pop.att.yahoo.com', Server: 'smtp.att.yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '250 8BITMIME', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 250, Error Number: 0x800CCC7D

Thanks Fireberd!  I finally fixed my outgoing mail problem! I went onto AT&T site to get information of additional settings that I needed to verify/adjust.  I appreciate all of your input regarding my problem.  Have a great day!:emotion-5:

Thanks for the feedback and glad to hear it's finally fixed.  I knew it had to be a setup issue in the e-mail program.
