cd/dvd not detected

I have a latitude d630, I downloaded the firmware to upgrade cd/dvd now it disappeared from my computer, it is also not listed under device manager. When I start my computer up I get device in modular bay cannot be identified. Can anyone help? I went through the process to remove upper and lower filters that I seen suggested but they were not there. Have also tried reinserting it and system restore and neither worked.
