Dell Has lost it's edge

I agree 100% with you, Dell makes decent products but the support you recieve lacks completely.  Dell will loose more customers if it doesn't do something quick and I for one will be glad to see this.  Maybe if these's companies started loosing sales and big corporate accounts they'd make some changes.

And if you want North American support, pay the extra cost for 3 year Pro Support.  Dells cost a fraction of a Mac and you can therefore justify the extra $79 or so for 3 years ofcoverage. 

Major companies are jumping from using Dell due to their lack of support and care.

So, one company that you work for Verizon doesn't use Dell and that means it is a stampede????

The company I work who is a major defense contractor still orders *only* Dells.

Yeah, go switch to a Mac and pay 2x for a computer. If you think Macs are that great, you had better pay a visit to www.appleDEFECTS.com

I find discussions like this amusing sometimes. You know, the ones where someone says I'll never use (fill in the blank) again and I'm switching to (fill in the blank with another company's name). Then people will either agree or disagree with the original position for whatever reason.

Every company (tech and non-tech) has good points and bad points. I haven't found a perfect company out there yet. If you look at the different tech company related forums out there (or at least for the ones that have forums) you'll find someone complaining about the company and someone else defending it.

I've purchased and used computer-related products from Dell, Gateway, HP, Canon, IBM, Sony, Linksys, and Motorola (all I can remember off the top of my head) on the hardware side and too many companies to count on the software side and for the most part all of them have been quite good. Does that mean that I haven't had problems? Umm, no. Fortunately I've been able to get about 95% of the problems solved either on my own, with the help of an outside source like these forums or with the help of the company. There have been a couple of exceptions that I couldn't fix but I won't mention the companies here (neither were Dell though). One thing to keep in mind though about the Dell systems is that they are made up of parts from numerous vendors: Intel, Nvidia, Corsair, just to name a few. Sometimes I'm still amazed that these things work at all with all of the different sources that are used. I think the same about cars though. :emotion-1:

There are some things that I don't like about Dell's decisions (the outsourcing, the UI of the forum) but my systems have worked quite well over the years and I even think that my Pentium 90 MHz system (yes, 1st generation Pentium) might still work after all these years although I seem to remember that I pulled the hard drive to use in another system but it's around somewhere. By now you're asking what the point of my post is and I think that it's that old saying that the grass isn't always greener on the other side, no matter which side of the fence that you're on.

P.S. I didn't mention Apple because I've never owned one but I do like some of the things that I've seen about them and an iPod Touch is on my To Buy List. :emotion-5:

My company has considered other PC vendors, but for some reason, we're sticking with Dell. We bought a bunch of Thinkpads for a big initiative (electronic lab notebooks), but the initiative has been killed. Too bad, I'd love a Thinkpad.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the words "Lenovo Thinkpad" but it still doesn't sound quite right to me. :emotion-1:
