HDV not recognised
I had to format Dell 1735 after virus and reinstalled XP. Drivers were very hard to find. I previously used laptop for video editing with Avid Liquid in HDV. It now only recognizes DV inputs. HDV does not show up. I have a Sony HDR HC9 vidcam which now is only recognized in DV mode. My Sony Handycam also shows up ( DV only ). I connected both cams by firewire. What software needs to be installed to get this function back? Thanks.

Since Dell does not support XP on this machine you are basically "on your own" to find drivers that MAY work.
However, with any reinstall the general sequence for install is (1) Install Windows (2) Install Dell laptop software (may not work or be needed with non-Dell supported OS) (3) Install chipset drivers (4) Install device drivers such as sound, video, etc.
The Chipset Drivers must be installed before installing the sound drivers and many others. One of the things the chipset drivers do is identify the devices on the motherboard.

You probably would be better off reinstalling Vista instead of the ancient XP. As soon as Windows 7 comes out, get it and install it and I'll bet your problems will be solved.

Windows 7 Professional will have an option to run XP programs (that will not run in Vista).
