M60 Laptop

I seem to have a problem know one seems to have an answer for. I own an M60 one day it froze and shut off and now it wont turn back on. I can plug the power adapter in and it shows that it is getting power to the system, but the charge light on the battery dosent come on. Dose it just need a new battery? I just dont want to throw away money!
