Hello to all, I'm new to the forum and will be asking questions about how to transfer data to my new optiplex 740 from my old Dell Dimension L866r. The old machine is almost unrecognizable with all the hardware I swapped out to bring it along all these years, and I've stored all my data on an external hard drive in order to put it into the new machine but I'd like to do it right and do some cleanup first. I'm up and operational and have the basic programs I need already installed, so I'll probably post questions as I find the time to put together the new computer. Looking forward to it! Clark

Keep in mind you can't "copy" programs to the new system, you will have to install programs using the programs' installation procedure (if it's compatible with the new PC"s OS, which I assume is Vista). You can only copy over "user" data - e.g. music, photos, wordprocessor data files, etc.
