Pop up problem

I Just recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 531 desktop, everything is great BUT.........I keep getting a pop-up that tells me to wait while windows configures dell communications.  Then another one pops up telling me to insert the 'Dell Communcations Disk because the feature you are trying to use is on a cd.rom' .  Then I get an error code 1706.  This happens over and over while I am logged in.  I then get a blank white square on the desktop that does not close until I shut-down.The computer did not come with a "Communications Disk' what the heck do I do.  I need a fairly easy fix, since I am not very computer savvy.  Thanks

Hey Carol43. I am experiencing the same problem with my Inspiron 531 and was just wondering if you have had any help on how to fix it. I did find out that mine is missing a file named dellcomm_A01. Other than that, i have no idea what happened. Thanks

Don't know exactly which program it is, but Dell apparently has a slew of applications listed for the 531 HERE.   Seems it has to be one of them (possibly the Dell Remote Access).

One way to try and figure it out:   use  MSCONFIG to disable each program originating from a Dell program file .  Once you've isolated it you can decide if you want to try and reinstall it or just remove it.  Help on using MSCONFIG below:

Error 1706 . No valid source could be found for product Dell Resource CD. The Windows Installer cannot continue.

Your problem is a known Windows Installer issue that occurs intermittently with many programs.
In most cases, it is resolved by actually re-installing the program that the Windows Installer asks for,
during the install process, the registry will be updated with new data that will stop the Windows Installer
opening in future.

If this does not work, try uninstalling The dell software, re-start your system, and then re-install.
Perform a final re-start and see if this fixes your problem.

If problems still persist try and visit the microsoft link below that provides instructions to run the
Windows Installer CleanUp Utility that can resolve this problem.
