Not sure about Vista, but XP lists any kind of optical drive as a CD drive under type. That has nothing to do with whether DVDs work or not.
I'm guessing that's not the real problem - if you're actually having trouble with with the drive, you'll need to be specific - can't write, can't read, won't recognize a disk, etc. If that's the case, then you'll get more expert help in the Drives section here of the forum - be sure to check the CD/DVD FAQ first to see if there's already an answer:
http://en.community.dell.com/forums/3534.aspx
If/when you post there, include your PC model, operating system, and any software you're using to burn (or play) DVDs. Also helps to know some history - did it just stop working, has anything on the PC changed, etc.?
FYI - Model number and firmware are different things. TS L632H is the drive model number; firmware is the control software inside the drive.

Hi,
Thanks for the prompt reply.Actually my drive isnt writing the DVD's at all.It shows the writing in progress and completes successfully and after i check the disks, it says 0 bytes used and 0 bytes free space left.
My pc is INSPIRON 1520 model, OS - Windows XP,
my dvd writer is - TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L632H.
firmware is D300
It had Windows Vista installed on it.I installed XP after that it stopped writing the discs
I tried with Roxio Creator DE.
Pls enlighten me what the problem is?
