If you can't find the product key, you are (as you put it) "pretty much up the creek without a paddle". Neither MS or Dell will give you another key (as you've already discovered). Not the answer you wanted I know, but that IS the answer.

I don't remember being asked for a key when I reinstalled my copy of Office Basic 2003. I do remember using a key finder to determine the key that was on the old hard drive, but I don't remember needing to type it in.
I'm at the office at present, but I will look this evening to see if the paper sleeve has a product code on it. In the meantime, have you tried installing Office?

Well, I didn't remember it, but I must have done it. My Office Basic disk is in a cardboard carrier with a certificate of authenticity that has the product code. You must also have gotten one, and if you discarded it, I'm afraid you will need to purchase another.
