Unresolved Issue
How do I get someone from Dell to respond to my continuing issue. Going through the various support pages sends you in a big circle. I am really frustrated.
1. When I enter my service tag, it defaults to an Inspiron 1525. What I own is an Inspiron 530s.
2. I have a continuing problem with the computer not recognizing the DVD drive. When I click on "My Computer", there is no DVD drive shown. I have had 7 sessions during the first year with tech support. It gets fixed and then the drive disappears again. Now when I try to contact Dell, the response I get is that the warranty period is up, even though this problem began immediately after purchasing the computer and frequently through the warranty period. When trying to burn or copy a CD, I get error messages like, no DVD burner found or no ATAPI device found. I have tried all of the self-help procedures including downloading a new driver. Nothing works, and I don't know how to contact Dell. I keep getting the website runaround. Any suggestions, phone numbers or email addresses at Dell that might help with this. This is extremely frustrating.

Hi, spikemck:
The normal procedure for a DVD drive that does not show up in My Computer is to delete the upper and lower filters. This procedure is described in the CD/DVD FAQ (link below) under "code 39 error for Vista".
If that does not work, then please post back and let me know.
