video card crashing ??
After installing a new program, it worked for a short time, and then the screen froze up(not just frozen, but chopped up, and distorted frozen) Upon re-boot the screen was just black, with lines and dots. After a few system restors, everything came back, but now I get the error on a blue screen Nv4-disp-file: infinite loop-device or device driver programming. The tech said my video card is "on the way out" Since I am an avid gamer, I couldn't resist trying a game after getting everything working. The game I tried worked for a minute, then just froze( this happens sometimes), so I rebooted, and tried again. This time all was well, and I played for an hour or so. Later on I tried again, and everything went goofy again, and reguired several hours of system restores in safe mode to get anything to work again. As long as I don't try to play a game everything else works fine. I can't seem to resist trying the games(pretty addicted I guess), hoping they will work.. If it is the card acting up, is there an easier way to get the system working again other than the system restores? Prior to this happening I downloaded an update to the card. When troubleshooting it was suggested to roll back to prior to the update.. this didn't help. Any suggestions--I ordered a ned video card, but am impatient..Thanks for any suggestions

I just about managed to read to the end of that post! The lack of breaks/paragraphs made it very hard to read though - something you might want to bare in mind for future posts :emotion-55:
Unfortunately, it does indeed sound like there's a serious problem with your graphics card :emotion-6:
You could try reinstalling the graphics drivers, but you're likely just postponing the inevitable; you probably need to buy a new card :emotion-43:
See if any of your friends have a spare card you can try first though?
That'll help confirm it's your graphics card which is the problem - although I don't think there's any doubt, really?

Sounds like its the video card. The only other thing you might check is to see if the fan is clicking on when your system is under heavy use. If your graphics card is not being cooled properly it will lock up.
