06D7TR mobo upgraded GPU sound issue
i replalced the business class GPU with an AMD R9 290X with watercooling, my issue is the original GPU was in the top PCI slot, and with the watercooling and heatsink my current GPU wont fit there and is seated in the bottom PCI slot, as such i have gone from sound passing though the GPU, to the tiny case speaker for all sound, i've looked and cant find a setting, am I stuck with mono sound, or am i missing a simple fix? (please say im blind and i can get good sound quality again)

@redxps630 it was bought on Amazon, not sure if it was a "stock" Dell, but it was an AMD Radeon RX 550 4GB.

how did you get sound passing though the Radeon RX 550 before? was there an internal audio cable connected to it? afaik RX 550 has no audio ports?

@redxps630 i haven't used/needed a PI/DIF cable for audio passthough in a decade, that's all handled by PCI slots now. The 550 was slotted in the PCI slot closest to the CPU, the 290x wont fit in that slot due to the heatsink interfering the the CPUs heatsink and fan, so its in the bottom most PCI slot, im wondering if the lower slot is a different PCI version and don't have audio passthrough

990 integrated audio ports are independent of PCIe slots or presence of discrete gpu.
https://i.dell.com/sites/csdocuments/Shared-Content_data-Sheets_Documents/en/us/optiplex-990-tech-guidebook-final-1-4.pdf
I usually connect a PC speaker jack to the green line out audio port.
you may want to check whether your Windows 10 audio driver is accidentally corrupted after installing a new gpu with its driver.
when in doubt, try a clean Win 10 install which should automatically detect the onboard Realtek audio chip and install the appropriate driver for it.

is it possible when you swap gpu the speaker flimsy cable was accidentally unplugged from motherboard?https://www.dell.com/support/contents/en-bg/videos/videoplayer/how-to-replace-internal-speaker-for-optiplex-990-sff/6079765757001

@redxps630 First I need to say, Thank You! while you didn't give me the solution per-say, you made me think of it, i was going back through what changes had been made same time i swapped GPU's, kind of looking for lose cables and such. I swapped out a bad HDD, and changed to a custom case. Apparently, the old HDD had (or never had?) the AMD software (Adrenline Edition) and I never reinstalled it. have installed it now and audio is passing through the HDMI port! all is fixed! again, thank you for responding and getting me to think about it! I truly do appreciate it!
