3040 mt psu upgrade

Does anyone know of any psus higher than 240w that would be compatible with an optiplex 3040 mt without having to use a 24 to 8 pin adapter? Ive seen cases of these adapters not being trustworthy. Thanks.

The Dell OptiPlex 3040 Mini Tower (MT) 240w power supply unit (PSU) measures 220 x 80 x 60 mm.

The Dell OptiPlex XE2 Small Form Factor (SFF) 315W power supply (models H315ES-00 / D315ES-00) measures 239mm x 72mm x 63mm

The 315w psu is 3 mm taller and 19 mm longer than 3040 psu. Op needs to make sure there is good clearance in the chassis.  3040 mt is 274 mm in depth.

The mounting screw hole position of 315 w psu doesn’t match 3040 mt psu which is a draw back. User who installs 315w psu need to find a custom way to fasten the psu at bottom of 3040 mt

if op is willing to have psu sitting outside case, then a better option is Optiplex XE2 MT 365 w psu with same compatible connectors.

OptiPlex XE2 Mini Tower (MT) 365-watt power supply unit (PSU) with part numbers like 7VK45, T1M43, HU365EM-00, or D365EM-00

Does the XE2 MT PSU come with PCIe GPU connector?  The 365w PSU for a Precision 3620 does.

@Bucket100  What would be the most helpful is to know what GPU card you plan on powering.

The 315w XE2 SFF PSU as suggested by redxps is a good bet then.  In an SFF, you might have to look out for heat issues.
