7050 SFF, SD Card Reader

I saw a couple of other threads with similar question but have not really yet found a satisfactory answer.  I recently ordered a 7050 Small Form Factor from the Business Outlet and the small sub-bezel on the front has 4 USB slots and audio input but NO SD card slot.  This shows up as "optional" in the Optiplex 7050 Manual but in looking at the Dell Order website there is NO way to even add this as an option on a new machine.  The option DOES show up under the Optiplex 5050 and is part no. 385-BBJU /MCR.

I called Dell parts and they tell me that the part number that shows up for the 7050 is TN7HG but my googling also comes up with 385-BBJV and 4CG6G.  In any case none of these parts are available from any source, including Dell.

So it there no way to swap out the bezel that I have with another bezel that includes the SD card reader?  I realize I can just plug in an external SD reader to a USB port but it would still be nice to have the built-in reader.

Thanks,

Doug

Hi Doug,

The bezel and the reader are two separate parts; the bezel you need is Dell part number TN7HG and the card reader is part number TT15C.

TN7HG is unique to the 7050 SFF, whilst TT15C is also cross compatible with several other Optiplex systems.

You can see how they're assembled on pages 13 and 25, here:

http://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/optiplex-7050-desktop_owner's%20manual3_en-us.pdf

4CG6G isn't a valid part whilst 385-BBJV is a SKU "mod" used in the production process (it actually contains TN7HG and TT15C) which isn't publicly orderable.

I hope this helps.

Problem is I have been told first part is not available. Don't know about the second

Do you know if either of these part numbers is actually available to be ordered?  So far am not finding any source.

Hi Doug,

Any part for currently shipping systems will be held in stock in the event that warranty repairs are required. If the spares team aren't able to source the part for you it can be for several reasons, low stock levels, low demand etc. I've made an inquiry as to what the case is here and i'll get back to you once I get a response.

When I originally called Dell customer service to find out the part numbers, I was eventually transferred to someone in parts who told me the bezel number was TN7HG but that this part was not available through Dell.  He said I should be able to find it elsewhere but when googling around for the part I found NOTHING.  Then you provided the part number for the actual reader (TT15C) and, again, googling around turns up nothing.

As far as I know the 7050 is still a current model and I am extremely surprised that Dell itself does not have the parts available.  If you could check I would appreciate it.

Any follow-up on this for other 7050 owners?  I would like to do the same thing, get an internal SD card reader for a new 7050.

Hi  joeryan147,

Send me a PM with your tag and contact details. I'll look into options for you.

Had you approached the spares team already on this?

Thanks

Probably optional for the other form factors not the SFF

I think it was actually an option shown on the 7050 but there is just no way that I can see to easily order a new 7050 with this option or to order parts after-the-fact to aftermarket install.  Seems ridiculous since it is such a handy feature to have the card reader--this should really be a standard stock item.
