755, CPU upgrade failed
dell optiplex 755 cpu upgrade fail
i installed the intel core 2 extreme
( supposedly quad core ) q6700 2.66ghz 1033 mhz cpu in my dell optiplex 755. upgradeing my intel core2 duo 2.66 cpu. ( lined up same way in socket lga 775 ).
i turne on computer and immedietly get error.------ system halted.
alert! incompatible cpu detected.
am i suppose to put some conversion sticker on it or what??
please help

That's weird ... it should have worked. These are Conroe chips.
I've swapped an E6600 for a Q6600 (slightly slower Q6700) before on a couple of Dell XPS-410 and once on a ASRock ... worked fine.
Sounds like maybe OPTIPLEX 755 is missing BIOS microcode for Q6700.

USFF does not support Quads. Basic Reason 150W power supply is not enough power. Core 2 Extreme QX 6700 uses too much power (130W) and is not supported in ANY 755.

ooooooooooh **bleep** I didn't know mine was a USFF so I didn't head that section of chart.. **bleep** I guess that was a waste of money.. Dang it …..thank you for ur help.. Wait if I get a bigger PSU, will it work then?
