53w GPU is likely too much for a small 180w PSU.

I have a 240w psu. I upgraded it for the graphics card.

One other thing I can think of - Try turning off Secure Boot in BIOS.

  • Hey revelationsr, I see you came from ETA primes build on YouTube, I also am having issues. Any chance you can post what BIOS version, and AMD driver version you are using for this to work? Thanks

@ J0nny88

Yes I did come from ETA prime. Love hes channel.

I had to play with the Bios quite a lot. There are some oddities when working with the OptiPlex. The 2 settings that seemed to get me past that issue was to turn off secure boot as well as legacy options roms needs to be on.

I am assuming you still need to install the OS. I would recommend leaving the rx6400 out of the machine until you finished installing windows. For some reason the rx6400 is putting out a odd resolution during installation that only 1 of my 3 screens understood. If you screen supports it then great.

I was surprised by how unusual the setup for this little machine was. Lots of little things that pops up and needs to be researched to move forward. That being said if I was to do it again now I think I will have the OS and card running in about 30 min.

Good luck!

Hey, thanks for the heads up, I too was having the same issues on my Optiplex 5050 SFF and these steps enabled me to get a picture out.  Unfortunately I was having another quite significant problem - the heat of the Card

Can you tell me if your gpu was getting unusually hot to the touch.?

When installed and after only a couple of minutes, mine was so hot I have returned it for a replacement. This was at Idle and even before it had booted into windows.  I'm hoping I just had a defective card as I am really excited to have this up an running in my Optiplex.

I would be interested to hear your experiences and comments.

I want give a big a thank you to you! I also watch ETA Prime. I bought a Dell Optiplex 5050 SFF, a 240w PSU from a 3050(mine had a 180w), and a Sapphire Pulse RX 6400. I couldn’t figure out why the GPU was not displaying and I came across this forum. Surely enough your suggestions worked and I was able to fully install the drivers.

Hi

Did you change the secure boot and legacy boot options mentioned previously in this message thread as they have worked for me and others.

Good luck

After recieving a replacement card the card's shroud still remains very hot, although once in windows and drivers are installed, gpu temp is around 50°c and the fan only kicks in when it gets to about 60° The card operates well and fan speed does ramp up under load.

It has been reported by multiple sources that this xfx card does run hot, so It seems to be a trend.

Hope this helps you

Where did you get your 240w psu?  The stock 3050 configuration only comes with a 180w psu (Optiplex 3050 SFF Power supply specifications).  I'm wondering if your 240w psu would work in my Optiplex 7070?  The 7070 only comes with a 200w psu.  I'm hoping to install a Radeon RX 6400 (50w) card and feel like a 240w psu would give me a little more headroom power wise.
