Black Screen and live cursor
I have an old optiplex960. it has been bulletproof for years. now running win7 -64
I rebooted it and it started, got the win startup screen, then went black with only a moving cursor.
I tried recovery disk, even tried Ubuntu. the pc boots up and I can see the drive. All is good, until I try to boot into windows.
I can't even upgrade to win 10 or 11 (I doubt if it is smart enough to be able to do 11)
and the magic "ctrl+winkey+shift + B" combo does not even BEEP.
help!!!
thanks

Replace cmos battery w a new one is 1st maintenance step.
second step is to do a clean Win 7 install.
if motherboard is still good should bring back Win 7. If yes then install video and audio drivers

If you do end up reinstalling Win7, it'll be more of a raw version without the updates.

@redxps630 I just installed Ubuntu 20. All is good now. the pc was fine, it was some sort of corrupted drivers (that prevented seeing ANYTHING more than a cursor.
