ClearType not working?
Just switched from a Lenovo desktop running Windows 8 to a Dell Optiplex running Windows 10 -- keeping my trusty Samsung analog LED monitor with a VGA connection. On the new computer, letters in all applications (word processing, browsers, emails) seem slightly shaky, faint, vaguely greenish -- not the clear, crisp, black typeface I had on the old computer (and have on my laptop that also runs Windows 10). Seems like exactly what ClearType was designed for, right? Except it has no effect, regardless of which options I select on each of the comparison-type screens. I've also checked Windows display settings: It's using the recommended full resolution that the monitor can handle (1280 x 1024 and 85Hz refresh).
The problem obviously isn't with the monitor or the cable, since type looked great with that same equipment on my last computer. Would be grateful for any suggestions...

Default VGA Driver does not support cleartype. most display adapters do not have native windows drivers which is why you download the video driver after windows is installed and online.
You turn it on running the clear type tuner. Clear type is ON by default.
You did not say what model dell. You press WINDOWS KEY R and RUN
cttune.exe and press ok

This is very interesting - first time I've seen this explanation anywhere!
My system is an OptiPlex 3070.
I want to make sure I understand what you're suggesting, though. When you say I "turn it on by running the ClearType tuner," does the "it" in that sentence refer to a video driver? And how is that related to a display adapter? How and from where do I download a replacement driver -- and which one? (Obviously the driver that came with the system is working fine except for the typeface issue I posted about. How do I know that a new driver will work with ClearType?)
Or have I misunderstood you and you're saying that all I need to do is run cttune.exe rather than doing that after replacing the driver? And am I correct in assuming that cttune will do something different than the stand 5-step ClearType adjustment process that's accessible from Settings -- and which I've tried several times without success?

Default VGA driver built into windows DOES NOT SUPPORT true type.
Intel or Radeon or Nvidia etc driver must be installed after base windows is installed.
Sometimes must be RE installed after a "Feature Update"
Optiplex models have ALL DRIVERS in a single cab file that must be extracted in the my documents folder. you download the cab, move to my documents, then right click EXTRACT HERE with 7zip.
for windows to FIND THE DRIVER without going online.

Are you using ClearType and TrueType interchangeably?
Also, I'm trying to puzzle out the logic here. Why would Windows offer a feature that its own driver couldn't support?
