Close Case Dell Optiplex 5050 MT

Hello,

I know it may sound weird, but I'm having the hardest time trying to close the case of a Dell Optiplex 5050 MT. I just received it today (Ebay). I was able to remove the lid to check the internals. However, for some reason, I can't get it to close. It will not slide shut. I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong.

Make sure nothing obstructs the cover and that the latch is not stuck in the lock position. This video shows the removal and installation would simply be a reversal of the procedure. It should simply slide forward but again make sure nothing obstructs the cover position while sliding.

This (reverse the steps as mentioned by JO) may also help.

  1. Slide the Blue tab on the rear of the PC towards the cover grip [1] and pull the cover towards the rear of the PC [2].

  1. Lift the cover-up and away from the system.

Hey this post is old but was the first thing to come up when I googled my issue and I fixed it so I'm replying from the distant future.

I got to the part where you slide the case forward, and it was just stuck, it wouldn't go.

If you look at the back, there are little metal tabs on the side door that slide into holes in the back of the case. If one or more of those is bent, it will hit the back of the case and not slide into the little slot for it.

I grabbed some pliers, and bent my little tabs back into shape.  One of them was especially bad, so I just twisted it until it snapped off.

Fixed the issue, the case now shuts.

Hopefully this helps somebody who lands on this page from a Google search in the future.
