Will the xeon e3-1220 v5 work on a optiplwx 7040 sff?

@Chino de Oro is spot on, it is indeed the same socket but I believe the Q170 chipset does not support that CPU. This list of Q170 supported CPUs may help. Also the Dell technical data here does not list the XEON as compatible.

The correct solution imo is that Xeon E3-1220V5 definitely works in 7040.
the Xeon has been validated by 5 users for 7040, although Dell did not bother to validate it.

@redxps630 Good to know and thanks for that information. The chipset listing obviously needs an update with correct information as well.
