Dell -optiplex 7010 Desktop grphics card
long story short bought a computer from best buy and they robed me by telling me this computer could be upgraded to play games later when i had more money for a better graphics card. they also recommended two graphics cards that i should use with my computer which both cards were too big and need more power then my computer could provide. when i complained to their so called geek squad about their incompetence's they basicly told me sorry and shrugged. now im stuck with a computer that wont do what i want and might not be able to upgrade to play games. after speaking too 3 different people one of them told me that the EVGA GeForce GTX 750 single fan is recommended for this computer. is this the best graphics card that i should buy and will it work so that i can play Skyrim or red dead redemption again? the computer i bought is a Dell optiplex 7010 Desktop - Intel Core i5 - 16GB Memory - 2TB Hard Drive Product Height 14.2 inches Product Width 4 inches Product Depth 16.1 inches
can someone recommend a graphics card that will work and can i play skyrim again or do i need to buy a whole new computer

The two games have significantly different system requirements.
Skyrim needs only a weak video card (gtx260) while red dead redemption needs at minimum gtx770.

ok so Skyrim will work but reread wont work I can live with that I prefer Skyrim and fallout. do you know if that graphics card will fit inside the computer? the one they recommended was too large for my computer and would not fit. or is there a way to find out if the recommended graphics card will work for my computer? is there a site that I can look up recommended graphics cards for specific computers? I don't really trust best buy after they messed up so many times.

Dell releases detailed tech guide for many optiplex models including 7010.
https://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/optix/en/optiplex_7010_technical_guidebook.pdf
you have a DT according to your description of chassis height of 4”.
the blue PCIex16 slot supports max video card length of 6.6” or 167.65 mm (p19/47), and max power of 50W. video card must be low profile (68.9 mm tall). double or single slot width is okay. Some of the GT1030 low profile can meet these requirements.
e.g., https://www.msi.com/Graphics-Card/GeForce-GT-1030-2G-LP-OC/Specification
Your psu (small form factor) does not have discrete gpu power connector.

You still refuse to acknowledge the 140 - 225W combined power for the 3.3v/5v rails.

i looked at that msi graphics card and it says the psu requirement is 300w for power supply
but the evga geforce gtx 750 ti says its 400w requirement
so can you confirm that the best buy employee recommended a third card that will not work with this computer? my computer power supply says not to exceed 250w will either card work for the machine that i bought? dont want to burn out my power supply and fry my computer.

what are you talking about just trying to find out the best card for my machine with little to no knowledge about computers.

GTX 750ti is a 60W card which your DT slot is not able to supply.
For GT1030 the 300W psu recommendation is a general ballpark estimate. for more accurate estimate of power need in your pc, refer to calculator mentioned here, https://www.quora.com/Will-a-250W-PSU-support-GT-1030-and-i5-7400
when I used the calculator for i5-3470, 4x4GB DDR3, 2.5 SATA SSD, I got 234W for psu. It seems l i5 uses less power than i7. Nvidia gpu recommendation is usually based on i7, with disclaimer that prebuilt pc may require less power for psu.
here are some users reporting GT1030 in 7010DT (i5-3470). HTH. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lN1rwlm5MSU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idSl07qAA_Q

Please consider this post as separate from some of the others.
As long as it's Dell (that I know of), Dell Optiplex 240-290w PSU's do to power up to 75w GPU's. 240w - SFF 250w - DT 275w - MT 290w - for the 7020/9020 MT The best GPU to go with an i5-3470 is the GTX 1050 ti.
https://m.youtube.com/results?search_query=Optiplex+7010+dt+gtx+1050+ti What you'll see is 7010 DT, SFF, & MT powering the 1050 ti and the 75w gtx 1650 also came up in that list.
"Your graphic card is too weak for the processor" means you'd still get full use out of the GT 1030 and GTX 750 ti without the CPU bottlenecking it, but better can go with an i5-3470. Anything above the 1050 ti and the CPU becomes the bottleneck.
Not only have I received kudos and "Accepted Solutions" in regards, no negative feedback has come from actual users running the suggested cards in their Optiplex's.
Not sure what exact i5 you have, but even if it's slightly different from the i5-3470, bottleneck %'s would only change slightly.
