Dell Optiplex 745 Gone very wrong
Hello,
I found my very old Dell Optiplex 745 Desktop today, since I knew the power supply was brown bread (dead), I just hooked up another one I had, that didn't fit. It was meant for an MT yet this one was SFF. So it obviously did not fit. Well anyway, I plugged it in and it seemed to work, something I discovered, it has a GX520 motherboard, I do not remember why though. It runs XP and I am not upgrading it. I recently got the WiFi driver to work on it and now it can use Wireless Connections. The thing is though, the sound driver does NOT work. If I move the mouse or click or anything along the lines of that the power supply has this horrible noise, yet, it is quiet when I do not move the mouse, it is sort of like a beep but worse, I appreciate any help to stop this and to get the sound to work again, I have plugged in 5 different speakers and nothing, as I said anything is appreciated. (I am happy to elaborate)

It may be easier to do clean install of XP on this GX520 board in 745 SFF case using MT psu. If the pc still has a DVD drive to allow you put a Windows XP installation disk in it.

XP is on CD.* I did enough loads with that one to remember. Remember Service Packs 2 & 3. May be by chance you already saved those on a CD? I don't know if you can still download them. *This isn't to say XP was never on DVD.
I think XP does include SoundMax audio driver. I don't ever remember having to do that separate on a normal PC.
If PSU is making odd noises simply by moving the mouse, it's timer might be ticking and it may be on its way out.
