Dell Optiplex 760 Not Booting
I wanted to upgrade the ram from 4GB to 8GB, and I took out the old ram and put in the new. When I turned it on, with the new ram, it started to make a strange noise and didn’t display anything on screen, and this happens, every time I turn on the computer. So I put the old ram back in, and the same thing still happens. I do not know what the do.

I realized all this time later was that I just put in the ram wrong. If you for some reason have this same problem, then just look up how to correctly insert a ram stick into the slot. :\

try replace cmos battery w a new one and clear cmos settings via motherboard jumper
760 only supports DDR2 non-ECC desktop only memory 800 MHz.
aka PC2-6400
If I recall correctly, PC2-5300 may work too.
compare the spec of your old ram with new one.
If you had 2x2 GB or 4x1 GB old ram before
you can upgrade to 4x2 GB new ram but they have to be 800 MHz or 667 MHz.
when you install new ram, put only one stick in DIMM 1 first. when it works, add a second one to test again. keep adding until all 4 are installed.

@redxps630 Is it possible to just take the cmos battery out and then reinsert the same one, as opposed to taking off an reinserting the jumper on the motherboard? Also I bought that exact type of ram, with 4 sticks of 2GB.

the jumper reset is more effective clearing cmos than battery replacement. the original battery is too old in 760 and should be replaced. otherwise it is a set up for issue.

@redxps630 @So I tried exactly what you said, I lifted the jumper and put it back on and replaced the cmos battery. And it still does the same thing. What do you think the issue could be?
