Dell Optiplex 760SFF HD5450
Hello, ive seen to run into a problem, ive put my hd 5450 into the motherboard and it wouldnt boot up, the fans would spin and then it would turn off. I have tested the HD5450 before and it should be using 19W so it should be well within the reason of its base silver grade PSU. Why doesnt it work? Does anyone know a fix for this? It appears that the BIOS is locked, I tried to install a crucial SSD on a different optiplex but it just wouldnt recognize it as its primary drive i can only get it to work with its own hdd. ( I have tried CMOS reset) In short I feel like the bios is hardware locked? Is this true and is there something I could do?

SFF power supply supports a 3450 so I dont see why a 5450 would have an issue.
Make sure PCI-E SERR MSG is OFF in bios then add the card.
You cannot use onboard video and the card at the same time.

Sadly it didnt work, the problem still persists, fans turn to 100% and stay there for a couple minutes and then the system just shuts down. The card is tested on my MSI z97 MB. I can provide you with how the BIOS looks like.
With the dell optiplex 780 the SSD didnt want to register at all as a bootdrive. It sounds like these motherboards are hardware locked for some reason while there are rooms that they can actually be upgraded, I can insert a quad core into this dell and a GTX 750TI. That was my plan but.. well yeah. Its not really going my way.

Hi @Zerefu,
GPU's aren't always my strongest suit, but there a couple of things I can answer in regards to your 780. It's not mentioned what size it is - MT, DT, SFF, or USFF. My answer will apply to the 1st three as the USFF doesn't have an expansion card slot.
The GTX 750TI is 60 watts. It'll say its limit by the PCI-E x16 slot "25 watts."
With the original HDD in your 780, by any chance did you format the SSD?
There's also conflicting info on SSD's. Some computers, like some Dell Precision's (servers and workstations) will have size limits listed. The 780 and it's generation is too far back to have SSD's in the tech guides. Yet, according to Crucial, the 780 can take any of their drives which go up to 2TB.
You might like to know your 780 isn't "hardware locked," but will have some limits due to its age.
Optiplex 780 Tech Guide In the tech guide you'll find suggestions for GPU's. Due to its age, I know GPU's aren't necessarily limited to what's in the tech guide.

As speedstep said, the HD 5450 should work in your 760 SFF. I also checked with userbenchmark. I'm not sure what's wrong there; hopefully not a bad PCI-E x16 slot.
The 750ti is 60 watts and the limit the 760 SFF has is 25 watts. If it's possible to burn out the slot or if the MB prevents it, I don't know. I'm a little dyslexic and thought you had a 960 SFF; otherwise, I would've answered sooner.

You were originally right about the other PC, it's a 780 and not an 870.

Ill try to use it on a different slot, ive had high hopes and im not sure of any other method to test the PCI-Ex16 slot.
Im not sure what to do next, for now ill just try the other slots with the AMD HD 5450.
Still not sure what happend with the 780.. I bought a crucial SATA SSD fairly cheap.
