Dell Optiplex 780 RAM upgrade problems

Hello guys!

So, I have a Dell Optiplex 780 and decided to make an RAM upgrade. I searched online info about the maximum capacity  and a lot of users all said 16 GB. I bought this kit https://www.amazon.co.uk/G-Skill-PC3-10600-1333MHz-Desktop-channel/dp/B008I34BCE (Not from Amazon, I bought it in a store on my country).

It's supposed to work, but it's not. I already removed the jumper, reseted de CMOS and everything, but it's still not working. It doesn't even beeps anymore, it just appears two numbers on the machine case de 3&4. The monitor also stays black, it gives no image.

The machine was working perfectly fine before I upgrade it.

What size/form factor is your 780?

The RAM you linked is not compatible with the 780.  Max per DIMM slot is 4GB, not 8GB.  Please see screengrab from the manual for the SFF:

I also attached the 780 Tech Guide below.

Hello!

Thank you for the reply!!!

My model is the MT. And...yes, seems like I hadn't searched enough about the machine and it leaded to this situation. These machines are indeed a little to weird to work with.

For instance, while I was trying to fix it, I had to turn it ON and OFF a lot of times and it ended up corrupting my OS (Windows 10). When I tried to re-install or factory reset the system, I was unable to because the machine isn't recognizing my keyboard and my mouse. I literally will have to borrow from my uncle a Microsoft keyboard for it to work.

I wouldn't be surprised if Win10 saw something it thought was amiss and corrupted itself.  It likely did that if its own recovery options don't work.

It did it to me with 2 scenarios.  First was having 2 drives in the same PC with Win10.  I run an older version on 1 boot drive since newer versions have a few bugs I don't like.  Second was trying to boot Win10 externally.  When reloading Win10, I had to delete all previous partitions of it.

If you use for a search term "optiplex 780 ram," you'll have an easier time finding the correct RAM; but beware of any claims that 8GB sticks (often sold as 2x8) are compatible with the 780.

A-Tech is a brand of RAM I've used for years and it has a lifetime warranty.  Great way to save money on classic PC's.  Crucial.com will also have the correct RAM.

Also, I take it your keyboard and mouse may be wireless?  Legacy BIOS may not have it's own driver for it and therefore requires wired keyboard and mouse.

No, it's all wired. But none of them work in that situation.

I only bough from that brand because it's cheaper for my in my country. Also if I bought from A-Tech or Crucial I would have to pay for import tax and that would be way to much for me.
