Dell support “View Product Specs” gone

I used to be able to view factory config spec by service tag.  Now this menu entry has disappeared.  When will Dell put it back?  It has gone for >24 hr.

PS on one recent day Dell support could not find any system using genuine service tag.  System was down.  But it was fixed within 2-4 hr.

@redxps630

After warranty and all extensions Expire they don't keep info like that anymore.

My favorite service tag B00BZ from my 1990's Dell is still there but ALL the other information is gone.  They also deleted an entire class of community forum posts for the older models like Dimension and Optiplex GX200 240 260 280 620 745 755 760 780 980 etc.   Thousands of my posts from the Desktop read only area are now GONE forever.

Should look like mine under

https://www.dell.com/support/mps/en-us/myproducts

NOTE expired units have NO info as far as specs or Config now.NOTE expired units have NO info as far as specs or Config now.

Disappointing if true.

@nyc10036

Checking further you are greeted with

"Your device has reached the end of service life and can no longer be renewed, upgraded, or extended. "

Finding drivers, bios updates, etc will also get harder which is why killing off the FTP site was a mistake.

last time I checked view product spec is available on Windows desktop Edge,  but not safari, edge or chrome browser of mobile device.  It could be the mobile browsers are getting too old and losing support of Dell web page functionality updated recently.

Greetings everyone!   I've been a Dell Reseller for years ....a few years ago, the ability to see "Original Configuration" went away.   Speaking with Dell support agents (Pro Support Plus) indicated that Dell was revamping their systems and creating a new dbase.  The agents had access to both systems apparently and if I gave then old ServiceTag info, they were able to tell me the detailed specs (and this over the phone or email).  It took a lot of time.

I have had about 80 machines in storage and tried to figure out which ones to donate and which ones to cannibalize / refurbish / keep as loaners.  Grabbing the service tags from a spreadsheet and obtaining the info from dell.com used to be invaluable in making this decision.

After reading this thread, late last night I finally got the info to appear!  Usually we prefer Google Chrome, but this experience did not work for the old "Original Configuration" link.  I tried MS Edge , but of course that also didn't work since it's now based upon Chromium.   But....  there is an IE11 compatibilty option (Works) in the upper right toolbar which allows one to view the info, as well as an "IE Mode" which also seems to work.

So thanks to your collective tips, I finally figured this out in Jan 2023 (I think failure roughly began around 2018-2019 time frame).

Kudos!

i am Trying to find the SKU info for shim on a Chromebook and its not showing me the View Product Per the Docutation of the how to.

Note: If your access panel does not have a label, the label has been defaced, or removed? You can follow these steps to identify what it is:

  1. Go to the Dell Support Site.
  2. Enter your Service Tag.
  3. Click on View Product specs.
  4. The label is listed along with the label letter. (example. LBL, SKU ID 0X01, X, computer model.)
