External screen only for Optiplex 5260 AiO

Question

Hi all,

my Optiplex has a broken screen and I cannot see anything on it. Attaching an external display to the DP port does not show anything.

I tried removing the LVDS and backlight plugs from the mainboard to "force" the mainboard to use the DP port but also no good.

Is there any way it is possible to use the computer from the AiO without the interal display?
I do not want to buy a replacement display if it is too expensive (also have not found the spare part on the 'net really).

Hey there, thanks for helping out.Yes - physically damaged. Hard sharp object hit the display directly it seems in the middle on the top. From there splits came down and spread to the left and to the right. From what I can tell, everything else is working as expected. I was able to update BIOS for example when parts of the screen (with OK/Cancel button) were still visible. Since I had to put a new HDD into it, it does not boot up to OS.

is screen physically damaged?

if no physical damage but no display, two possibilities:

video display adapter broken / LED display cable connection broken;

no post (good display but system does not post).

Does the power status light blink amber? For example, the power status light blinks amber two times followed by a pause, and then blinks white three times followed by a pause. This would suggest faulty components.

try LCD BIST: All-in-One (AIO) systems supports LCD BIST similar to any other Dell systems that have BIST test implemented. It allows the user to isolate the LCD during troubleshooting to determine which sub-system is at fault. When BIST is initiated, an internal generated pattern from the LCD will be emitted for user's observation. This pattern will go by sequence through this pattern, Red- Green-Blue-White-Blue where each pattern is emitted for 2 to 3 seconds.

To invoke the LCD BIST, turn on the system and press and hold the Display Built-in Self Test button plus the Power button together. Release the buttons when Red- Green-Blue-White-Blue pattern is displayed on screen.

Yeah, I tried removing the LVDS cable to make PC think no display and use DP out....

Any chance I could connect some LVDS laptop screen from an old laptop?

Try install Win 10 on new hdd in another desktop pc then transplant hdd with os to 5260. This will boot if 5260 motherboard is good.

if just physical damage to led, pc is blind to it. It still thinks you have an intact built in display. It is possible you are not set up for multi display so external second display is blank. If there is still a tiny bit of led screen left try to see if you can enter settings > display to set up multi display.

I don't understand how this is marked solved. You do know that you must install Windows on the new drive before you can boot. The best solution is to buy a new computer. Any major repair might not work and is a waste of money.
