headset not working on optiplex 7010

so basically I have a headset that I've just bought and when I tried plugging the headset in the sound jack I was able to hear but I was not able to speak in my mic. After that I plugged the headset in the splitter it came with and I plugged the splitter in both the sound and microphone jack but now I'm not able to hear nor speak.

The combo headset/mic is probably not compatible. You need separate headphones and microphone.

Manual is not helpful about this.

So I should buy another mic and keep the headset

7010 shouldn't have any trouble with headset.

Right click speaker icon in taskbar > Click Sounds > Window opens > Click Recording Tab > Click on headset > Another window opens > Click Listen tab > > Check box for "Listen to this device"

Also, when sound window first opens, you should see headset and headphones or just headset.

One more note - I use Bluetooth.  Might be something to consider if my answer isn't a matchup and it's still not working by wire.  Please try answer both ways - with and without splitter to see which one works.

I'm glad you got it going.  And wouldn't you know it?  That figures.  That was at the back of my mind, but I didn't think that was it.  You must've gotten a splitter that's better than the last one.

Also, I wondered if checking the "Listen to this device" might cause an echo, but thought it worth a try.  I noticed my PC was hearing my headphones with built in mic as sound bar in a window was going up and down as I made screengrabs.
