Low Profile RTX 4060.

Big question, will anyone figure out a way to power it in an Optiplex?

I currently have a 5060 sff. If someone finds a way to do a PSU upgrade. I'd pick up a LP RTX 4060

You did not state whether you replaced the stock PSU in your system. The 5060 SFF has a 200W PSU. The RTX 4060 requires a 550W PSU and an 8 pin power connector. The only way to have a PSU large enough would be to have a cable extender and put the PSU outside the case.

@JOcean I did not replace the PSU. My question was,

"Big question, will anyone figure out a way to power it in an Optiplex?"

If i was to add on to question to make it more clear, "How would you do a PSU upgrade?"

JOcean, I have seen you around. I wanted to say, "We appreciate your expertise."

BTW Gigabyte recommends a 450 W PSU at the website.

Over the weekend, I updated massively on topic. I learned there are 2 options.

1. One is in your reply. Replace the PSU.

2. Add on a PSU

Fortunately, for myself My 3 feet desk has a shelf on the bottom. I have my computer underneath and the STOCK 200 watt PSU is already outside the case. All my DELL computers have been open case.

@JOcean I wanted to include this for fun. The recommended 450w PSU is a little over kill. I dont know about the Corsair stuff. From my experiences with DELL, if they would have offered a DELL 315 or 360 PSU upgrade option. A RTX 4060 would have ran like a champ.

This comment is from experience and ghetto knowledge but I am sure it would run great

Thanks for the kind words. Just one of the users trying to help out and make computing more fun and entertaining. I have seen other install an external PSU with the appropriate adapters and it seems to work just fine. Not pretty but very usable.

Anything from a GTX 1080 to an RTX 4060, take your pick.

@Chino de Oro

GTX 1080 = 180w; RTX 4060 = 120w  Both are out of the 240w PSU range that the 7050 MT has.  A catch with userbenchmark is that they don't say what PSU they're running.  Suggested is 365w minimum PSU for the RTX 4060 and 450w minimum for the GTX 1080.

I'm also going to tag in our PSU expert @redxps630 and see if an answer comes.  @redxps630 - Are they're any Dell PSU's, with the above wattages listed, that will fit in a 7050 MT?  Or is the only option is to have a PSU outside of the case?  Any required adapters?

@bradthetechnut , the question was not about which video card is tested and validated to work with the machine.  The question was asked toward @JOcean response of using RTX 4060 with PSU outside the case, which video card is the latest and highest can be used with OptiPlex 7050 MT.  As the request with urgency and not knowing if @JOcean is available, I just bugged in and pointing the user to benchmark site whereas other users were managed to install variant of cards.

The question of which is the latest and highest will depending on the time of inquiry.  No answer can be a definite.  The answer was a kind way to helping user and also concluded it from thread being hijacked to off topic, 5060 sff vs. 7050 mt.

My response was not an inquiry, so there is no need for additional response or specsheet clarification as I am familiar with both systems.  While OP specified PSU sat outside but never close this thread with result, new user did not disclose how the PSU was setup.  Any PSU discussion is moot.

My thanks still go out to you and other super users for your support and guidance.

Highest gpu for 7050 mt depends on cpu and psu.

i5-7500 or i7-7700 are typical cpu.

7500 mt stock psu is quite limited as the optiplex was not designed for high power gaming pc spec

but users have validated Dell 500w psu (designed for xps 8940, G5 5000 or Optiplex 7800/7900) can be used off-label in 7050 without need for adapter.  The evidence is still mixed having some positive and some not

if you use such 500w psu, then the remaining question is which gpu matches cpu without significant bottleneck.  Such Q also has something to do w the gaming resolution.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070
Recommended Power Supply 500W
Benchmark CPU Intel Core i7-7700 @ 3.60GHz

@Chino de Oro

"Any PSU discussion is moot."

I disagree.  People can't just be told they're point is moot, as if to try to mute them.  You apparently wanted the thread to end at your answer.  OP inquired about a PSU upgrade to power an LP RTX 4060.  Then Mansoor jumped in asking about the best card for a 7050 MT.

Especially as a Rockstar, cards that have wattages outside of Dell specs should never be suggested or recommended without the poster knowing the recommended PSU wattages.

You offer vast knowledge as I've also seen in other forums.  Why cut it short?

If you disagree, you can always DM @Dell-Brad L .

I specifically made a account here to answer your question because I have been researching this myself because I have a optiplex in my local area I'm looking at buying for the same build.

So it seems pretty easy to upgrade the power supply in a SFF optiplex by simply using a 1u flex power supply and then just getting the 24pin to Dell proprietary motherboard adaptor. And then the rest hook up with normal PSU cables. This is a mock up of the build I want to do and this is roughly to scale to with the current optiplex I have and doing some measurements with my case to the compents. The only issue is you will need to mod the pcie bracket support in the back of the case to accommodate for the dual slot card but being careful with a Dremel should remedy that cutting less always better than cutting more and making small adjustments till it's right.

over on the sleeping optiplex sub reddit some one has taken my proof of concept and made it a reality. this is not my optiplex but exactly the same as what I have been planning on doing.
