Monitor stuck in low resolution
When I turned on my Dell Optiplex 3020 PC today, the screen resolution on its P2011H monitor was wrong: it is at low resolution and at 4:3 ratio stretched to fill the screen. I hadn't changed anything. Windows 11 Settings>Display showed the screen to be set at 1024x768 (I think the native resolution was higher) and there was no option for a higher setting. I used the monitor's menu to reset settings, but nothing changed.
Any ideas?

Video display adapter is corrupted. Go inside dev mgr > display adapter and uninstall all existing drivers, restart pc and let Windows reinstall driver. Hopefully it would be fixed. If not then the bug is at a deeper level needs more doctoring.

@redxps630 Thanks! I've tried that now... but no change. Windows keeps reinstalling the Intel 4600 driver which Device Manager states: "The driver for this device has been blocked from starting because it is known to have problems with Windows. Contact the hardware vendor for a new driver. (Code 48)" I can't find an update for this driver on the Intel site which just tells me no updates are available and the driver's availability is offline. I wonder why this is?

@ThisWreckage , try to reinstall this chipset driver first. Reboot your machine, then run this Intel video driver. During installation, select to perform clean installation if available.
Other work around method is manually change graphics driver to Microsoft basic display in Device Manager, then extract this Intel video driver and manually browse to update.

Chino has good idea. I am a more simple minded user who really dislikes manual search for device driver because of bad experiences (no gurantee it would work). It seems your OS is messed up sorry to say. If I were in your situation I would back up data and then do a fresh clean install of OS which takes no more than 10 min and solves all headache. some say this is over drastic which I understand. I am more of a start with clean slate user than repair person.

I also liked Chino's idea since I had a similar situation some years ago. I migrated a Win7 drive from Optiplex 755 to 790. Display was off until I updated chipset driver. At the time, I used Dell Support Assist.
And then there's...So it was working, then one day you turn it on, and then it's not working properly.
If it's 5+ years old, replace the size 2032 CMOS battery. Bad batteries cause all sorts of problems.
