Moving HD, memory and processor from 7010 SFF to 7010 MT

Disconnect everything and just have cpu and ram.

Then attach video

It should post with hard drive error.

Thanks - hard drive was working fine in the SFF case. I was getting a blinking amber light 2-1. That’s supposed to be a bad MB. I noticed that the fan for the cpu cooler was disconnected. After remedying that, The power light now is solid amber. From what I understand, that means the PS is good but it’s not fetching codes. Not sure what that means.

A PSU not fetching codes is not good.

Do you have any numbers staying lit with your solid amber power light?  Or is it still 1-2?

Dell Diagnostic Indicators 

There are no led's on this model, only the power switch. Last night it was solid amber, now blinking 2 then 1. I'm going with bad MB. If you have any other insights, please reply and thanks for your help.

when you post tell what's in the box first.??? please, I must presume the 7010mt ran before all this........?

all things all options. all ports/cards all usb connected and even CD stuck in CD trays.

it is a  NO P.O.S.T , and worse BIOS DEAD PC. why only remains the tests are simple for sure with spare PSU.

not told is what all fans  in the PC do, CPU first, PSU fan may not spin on some DELLS IDK that.

the LED there, is not (pick a deity) AI smart, it has no brains behind it, consider this if the BIOS is dead how can the silly lamp be smart, no it can not. what matters is what comes out of the VGA port (IGPU only)

Do the long reset first, power cord UNPLUGGED ,even let PC sit for 1hour with no power cord at ALL.

get all  those huge capacitors inside to 0.0vdc, and win.

do not HOT swap things inside any PC, or you will have pain, or BOOM or smoke, or latch up, like you have now. (possibly)  learn to reset the PCs hardware, first this is something every tech knows... and now to.

The strip it down,  PC's have lots of PARALLEL SHARED resources, like RAM. as one. unplug them.

That includes POWER< i one chip or card or stick shorts the PSU shuts down, in 1 second or less,

fancy DPS PSU can do it is  16/1000th of a second, faster that blink  of eye this is to prevent fires and

also not blow up $500 CPU or GPU, THE PSU does all that, and protects you and the devices.

due to those tech facts, you are best building up any PC 1 step at a time never all at once.(but fun to watch sure)

even the simple hold power button for 4 to 5 seconds wakes the PC up, this is the INTEL south bridge, doing that ACPI magic,  changing power modes (sleep) S0 to 5 to G3 hard power full on.

that is my power review, knowing this makes problem solving easy.

make sure the fans spin, if those spin the CD tray must eject.

the hdd can be heard to spin (12vdc motor there)

the PC may beep the PC may, blink leds in codes.

the PC has IGpu VGA port use that only use that and see POST errors on that VGA port, it will send test

this is BIOS telling you what happened, if bad things happened," like PCI VIDEO CARD DEAD" or the like.

if  dead here BIOS is DEAD,strip the PC down to the classic minimum system,

remove all ram but 1 stick

remove all PSU loads that can short, all SATA cable pulled, even DVD drive  cables.

All PCI  cards out.

make sure both PSU POWER cables are connected to the Motherboard, not just 1,  both are 100% needed.

the 4 pin uptop and the 24 pin on right side MOBO>

do not hot swap power cables in side ever, super bad that.

this mobo has 4 DDR,  it can run with 1  DDR, for sure. the manual tells you what slot does that !

intel calls that feature FLEX ram. you have, as do I>  Q77 MOBO are not junk at all,  they are still prime.

smart move, SFF stink as PCs. worse are AIO.

but why do that all at once? (sure eat pain for breakfast?) building works best SERIALLY !

why not just do the 7010 CPU upgrade first, no HDD needed, leave it disconnected. no PCI- CARDS !!!

then get the BIOS working first F2 pages....... 1st things 1st as they say....

do the LONG reset first (after the CPU install do not bend the pins as vast nymphets do.)

no video cards present , use the VGA port to the VGA igpu port can tell you POST ERRORS !!!!

see it works, if not and CPU pins not bent the PSU is dead. or RAM bad.

if still failed step 2 is ,  do the strip down tests.

Thanks - Lots of info here - I will start wading through it and keep you apprised of the progress. 

1) HD unplugged

2) connected KB, Mouse, VGA (on MB), no Video card

3) plugged in power cable, immediately comes on without pressing power button. 

4) nothing on monitor, KB doesn't light up. 

5) turned off using power button, unplugged all 

6) hard reset. 

I will let it set for at least 1 hour and take out all but 1 stick of memory. Slots are numbered so I assume number 1 is where it will reside. 

This is the MB from the SFF. It is the same model (LA0531) that's in the MT. The size looks the same as the MT as well. Will this work? 

Yes, barebones. Not my first rodeo in building computers. Thanks for the confirmation on the MB. I ordered one today that's a 9010 MB for a MT that will allow me to put 32 MB in it. I'll probably sell the SFF as barebones.

In reviewing the tech guide, I could tell for sure the MB's aren't the same size.  I was pretty sure they weren't but wanted to make sure.  MB layout is also different.  You probably noticed by now.

The number below the Backwards UR is not the Dell model number its the UL certificate number.
