Optiplex 3040 Graphics upgrade

I'm purchasing AutoCAD LT for a new part-time job.  My 3040 exceeds all the requirements except that AutoCAD LT requires minimum 512MB of dedicated video memory and the installed graphics adapter only has 192MB of dedicated memory.  Is it possible to upgrade the Graphics of my Optiplex 3040?

Well, I don't know what form factor you have (DT, SFF, MT) which matters due to lack/presence of x16 PCI-E slots and available space.

If you have the SFF, there may be little luck of fitting a card inside that fits your requirements without having proper space (GT 1030 might be the only option there, I do not own a 3040). The DT and MT models, however, there is hope there. You should be able to support the GTX 1050 or 1650 inside the DT model, of course low profile models. In the MT, you shouldn't have any issues with space since it's the biggest form factor available, and supports full-height brackets and cards inside (measure before buying!). However, you may want to upgrade the power supply no matter the form factor, since cards can get pretty power hungry and above the current power supply present in the system.

So yes, you are capable of upgrades, but it's limited to what 3040 you have.

Also; be careful when buying and make sure motherboard and PCI-E have enough power/features to support said card (some require plugs) and that you have optimal power for your system.

Unfortunately for me, I have the micro form factor.  So it sounds like I don't have the option of upgrading my graphics card, huh?
