OptiPlex 3070 Micro, E1916HV, no signal

I have Optiplex 3070 Micro which has DP and HDMI ports. However, the monitor I have is EV1916HV which only has VGA port.

I bought VGA to HDMI adaptor, however, I am getting an error "There is no signal coming from your computer. Press any key in the keyboard or move the mouse to wake it up."

I did all sorts of troubleshooting, but still doesn't work.

To ensure that my VGA to HDMI adaptor is working, I tried to connect it laptop Dell Latitude 3490 and it displays well. So it is not cable/adaptor issue.

I'm not sure where the issue is. But please help me sort this out.

Thank you in advance!

Ran out of time

HDMI OUT to Display port monitor requires ACTIVE adapter with power supply.

Your monitor has no HDMIYour monitor has no HDMI

Passive adapters are NOT Bi directional

You cannot convert HDMI out to Display port with passive adapter.

Display port to VGA is also NOT bi directional.

Series E1916H
Resolution XGA Wide
Hardware Interface VGA, DisplayPort

There is no hdmi on this monitor only display port and vga

There are no HDMI 2.0 to DisplayPort adapters there are adapters for the other way around Display Port to HDMI DISPLAY PORT is NOT bi directional.  HDMI to display port monitor requires active converter.

https://www.startech.com/en-gb/audio-video-products/hdmi2dp

DisplayPort to HDMI cannot be used in reverse to try and get HDMI to DisplayPort. Nor can Display port to VGA be used in reverse for the same reason. Display port is NOT bi directional.

https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/optiplex-3070-desktop/opti3070_micro_sm/working-on-your-computer

Display port is not bi directional so you cannot use a display port to vga adapter in reverse.

Dual monitors DOES NOT WORK on the micro unless the OEM intel graphics driver is installed.  this driver will become broken with each windows 10 feature update and will need to be manually removed and reinstalled.

No display from VGA can be incorrect resolution or frequency OR no INTEL Video driver.

The monitor displaying power save comes from the monitor not the pc it will do this with no cable attached.

Do you have any modern flatscreen TV? If yes test micro connected to TV HDMI port or DP.

Hi @redxps630 I have no issues with TV. It works fine. It is just the Dell Monitor which does not display when I'm using adaptor. Hope you can help. Thanks.

If the following three were all true, it would be strange.

  1. 3070 hdmi to tv hdmi, works fine.
  2. laptop hdmi to hdmi/vga adapter to monitor, works
  3. 3070 hdmi to hdmi/vga adapter to same monitor, no signal.

I do not understand how above three could all be true.  how does the monitor know which video source is sending hdmi signal via the adapter?  it sounds like monitor sees signal from laptop but not 3070, yet 3070 has a good hdmi signal out verified by tv.  It sounds like monitor is blind to hdmi signal from 3070 but is perfectly ok with hdmi signal from laptop.  It doesn’t make sense.
