Optiplex 5050 SFF gpu upgrade (hardware corner)
To upgrade the GPU of OptiPlex SFF, a low-power, low-profile graphics card must be used. Currently, the most reasonable GPU option is AMD's Radeon RX 6400 low profile. This model has a good price point, delivers decent FPS, and does not require any addtional hardware upgrades.
The low power requirements of this model make it the perfect option for an SFF gaming build. The RX 6400 low does not need any additional power from the PSU and can rely solely on the power delivered by the PCIe slot (75W).
GPU upgrade options for Dell OptiPlex 5050 SFF with the stock 180W power supply:
| GPU | Power consumption | Memory | Req. |
|---|---|---|---|
| RX 6400 Low profile | 50 W | 4 GB DDR6 | Works with no additional hardware changes |
| GTX 1050 Ti Low profile | 75 W | 4 GB DDR5 | Works with no additional hardware changes |
| GTX 1650 Low profile | 75 W | 4 GB DDR5 | Works with no additional hardware changes |
| RTX A2000 Low profile | 70 W | 6 GB DDR6 12 GB DDR6 |
Works with no additional hardware changes |
Keep in mind that these low-profile, low-power GPUs can be quite noisy and may run hot when under full load.

When quoting an entity outside of Dell, or stating what's on YouTube, it needs to checked against Dell standards and stated when it's outside of Dell specs . Nowhere I could find that Dell supports 75w cards on 180w PSU for the 5050 SFF. I believe it might be possible with the MT and 240w PSU. However, the max card Dell suggests is 65w. This is in the manual and spec sheet. As for the SFF, this could possibly be checked against your own load wattage calculator.
I do think the RX 6400 is a good idea compared to Dell's suggested cards.
From the 5050 spec sheet:
Speedstep also like the RX 6400:

The optiplex master brad is back and he is correct catching hardware corner statement holes. 5050 sff stock psu is only one option: 180w, which falls below the minimum load wattage for 1050 ti or 1650 (209w for nvme ssd only). those who want to upgrade sff can consider the 240w psu for 5050 mt which can fit sff like a glove. better still is the 360w oem psu.

@Cresso The Grey I have put an a2000 into a 5050 sff optiplex today, runs totally fine. Only issue is that it has to go into the 4x pcie slot due to position of 16x slot. Performance loss on this will be minor but I am going to use a 16 to 16 external mount at some point to get the full potential.
On i7 7700 and the stock 8gig ram, csgo on max settings 1080p was pulling upwards of 200fps
No crashes or power cut outs
