According to Dell's Optiplex 5055 SFF Owner's Manual your machine is one of the earliest Optiplex 5055 and it was offered with your CPU and a Ryzen 3 Pro 1300 and a Ryzen 7 Pro 1700. See the list below:

● Optiplex 5055 A-Series: Offered with AMD Ryzen 7 Pro 1700, Ryzen 5 Pro 1500 and Ryzen 3 Pro 1300.
● Optiplex 5055 Ryzen CPU: Offered with AMD PRO A12-9800, A10-9700, A8-9600, and A6-9500.
● OptiPlex 5055 Ryzen APU: Offered with Ryzen 3 Pro 2200G, Ryzen 5 Pro 2400G and Athlon Pro 200GE.

You may be able to upgrade it to the Ryzen 7 Pro, but there is no clear information about the upgrade path of these computers. Hope this helps,

Thanks, but the chipset should support more processors than what it was originally sold with.

And Dell has updated the BIOS  on a regular basis, but no mention of whether or not additional CPU's are supported.

From the 5055 SFF owner's manual:

"AMD B350

• Chipset is perfect for power-users who value flexibility and overclocking control, but don't need the maximum PCIe bandwidth required by multi-GPU configurations.
• AMD Socket AM4 represents the company's new future-proof platform targeting the fastest DDR4 memory."

Any idea if the Ryzen 7 3700X would work? It has the same chipset and wattage as the CPUs listed in the spec sheet.

True, but OEM machines (like Dell and HP) typically only have micro-code in the BIOS to support certain main-processors. It's really nothing new.

The Intel-based Optiplex 5050 was a very good and common series of machines. If you have some AMD variant, that is something different and I would think rare.

I want to know which is the best processor for my Dell Optiplex 5055 SFF. My socket is AMD AM4.
