Optiplex 7050, Booting issue after updates

Question

Hello,

I updated my Dell Optiplex 7050 micro desktop, and the BIOS was one of many updates that were installed on my system! Since then, my computer never boots successfully. It gets stuck on the DELL logo. I have read many blogs to downgrade the BIOS version, what I did, but still, I have the same issue. I removed the CMOS battery, nothing happened.

Another problem, the service tag is not recognized. I am wondering what is the problem with my computer!

Hi,

It's possible that the BIOS has been corrupted during the update. Have you tried installing the latest BIOS on a USB key and then booting to it to reflash the current BIOS version?

Which USB ports do you have the keyboard and mouse connected to? If you disconnect them and try powering on the system, does it still hang on the Dell splashscreen?

I have tried all the options, downgraded the BIOS version till 1.2 which was blocked. I reinstalled the 1.8.3 (the current version which caused me troubles). My Keyboard and mouse are attached to the back USB ports and I disconnected them still, no change!

Can you try the following steps and let me know what happens with the system please

1. Format the USB key to Fat32 via command: “Format /FS:FAT32 X:”
2.Download the BIOS executable file from eSupport website and rename the file name to BIOS_IMG.rcv
3.Copy the BIOS_IMG.RCV to USB key, please reside it in the root directory or ”\”
4.Insert the USB key into USB port of system and Turn on the PC.
5.Immediately hold down on “Ctrl” + “ESC” key until the BIOS recovery page appear.
6.Select “Recover BIOS” and press “Continue”; in pop up window select “Continue” to confirm the BIOS recovery and press enter to start the BIOS recovery. (Don’t shutdown or reboot your system during BIOS recovery.)

So, it doesn't sound like you "bricked-it" because otherwise you would not be able to access BIOS.

Sound like maybe, on that first successful BIOS flash, some of your BIOS options got reset.

I too am having these same issues after the update... Critical applications and critical day, has this issue been resolved.  Please provide a verified fix.

HI Alan,

Yes, I am able to access BIOS using the F2 key. When I updated the BIOS first, it was via general Windows 10 updates and that's when the nightmares started.

Flashing the BIOS, I have been using a USB key. I removed CMOS for 13 minutes approximately! I am trying to find an external DVD drive to boot from windows 10 recovery disk!

It sounds like your BIOS configuration is setup incorrectly and is preventing your system from booting.
Can you access the BIOS setup and tell me what your SATA operation is set to and do you have secure boot enabled for Windows 10?
