Optiplex 755 start up problem

Hi guys

A week ago my g/f's Optiplex 755 was working fine then when she pushed the startup button the amber flashing light came on so she waited for 10 to 15 minutes when her desktop appeared normally, later on she turned the pc off the next day the same thing happened but it took 25 to 30 minutes for the desktop to appear with the green startup button, the following day it took 45 minutes same thing happened after waiting while the amber light was still flashing the green light appeared once again so for the past few days shes been leaving the pc on and transferring all her files on on a removable disk.

The number 2 light appears when shes on her desktop and the green startup button is green, she now fears if she turns it off the desktop it wont appear again so I cant tell ya what lights appears on her startup, she as no pci card installed and hasn't changed anything

Hoping to find a solution to her problem  and that its not her motherboard !

Thank you

Rick

Failing power supply and hard drive are not uncommon for a 12 year old model.

Flashing amber power light means bad PSU.

The #2 light means bad PCI device, but you said you had none of those installed.

2 PCI PCI device configuration or failure
  • Remove all external peripherals and all internal PCI devices.
  • If the fault continues, contact technical support.
  • If the fault stops, reconnect the components one at a time until the fault re-occurs, then contact technical support.

Thanks speedstep but the above links only brings me to my g/f's tag # and warranty which isn't valid.

Does anyone else have any idea what could be the problem the pc does work but takes a long time to finally get to the green light after the startup with the amber flashing light, once it finally boots to the desktop the pc works fine but with the #2 light still on ?

Thanks

Thanks Brad

So can a faulty PSU still startup the pc after a certain time as I mentioned above ?

Also does remove all external peripherals including the mouse, keyboard, printer, and sound connectors

Much appreciated

Hi speedstep Well having checked your link it would appear that the PSU on Newegg isn't offered in Canada where I reside but whoa what a difference in price oh well so can you tell me if this one is the same PSU available at Newegg Canada and that it is the right one @ https://www.newegg.ca/p/1A0-002Y-008X0?Description=Dell%20305W%20Power%20Supply&cm_re=Dell_305W%20Power%20Supply-_-9SIAHFJ87C6545-_-Product

Hi @Rickwar,

It looks like you're all squared away on PSU's now with speedstep's links and part #?  The first one you had picked out is for the DT model.

Hi guys

So sorry for the late reply, well I did install my psu in my g/f Dell and all is well so I left it in her pc and ordered a new one which I should get soon so great and thanks so very much for you help

Just one more thing tho and I didn't see the need to start a new topic

When I started up her pc I got a message from the bios stating that there was no Sata 3 found here's the message

20201110_083938.jpg

I'm sure I installed the connections right, her pc as two hard drives ''multiboot' on normal start up she chooses Windows 7 or XP so I assume that those two drives would be Sata 1 and 2, she also as two optical drives DVD reader and a Dvd RW the first Sata connector is inserted in her DVD reader and the second in the DVD RW so my question is would Sata3 be connected to her DVD reader and could it be a faulty connection ?

When she chooses F1 her multiboot screen appears normally and she can access what ever Windows version she wishes to launch

Thanks for reading this and hopefully put this to bed once and for all

Rick

Hi

Well I received the new PS and Ive been trying to figure out where my connector cables are ? on the link I posted above there seems to be two different pictures of the PSU, so thinking it was the same thing ''both are the same number and part'' with the cables inside where the black square is where I though they had put the cables?

Here's the link as above

https://www.newegg.ca/p/1A0-002Y-008X0?Description=Dell%20305W%20Power%20Supply&cm_re=Dell_305W%20Power%20Supply-_-9SIAHFJ87C6545-_-Product

So can you tell me if that's the wrong psu, or if I need the one with the cables appearing, changed many psu over the years but this is a first and feel like trowing the whole thing out of the window

This is the one I received

Thanks again guys

You already swapped PSU's with your g/f's PC.  If the connectors aren't matching up, you may have the wrong PSU.

Optiplex 755 Tech Guide shows where the connections are on the MB (if it helps).

Hopefully the PSU you bought came with something for a return policy along as it isn't a matchup.

The connecors should come out of 2 different places.  Checkout the PSU in my previous 755 MT, with MB 24-pin connection by itself:
