Optiplex 755 start up problem

Hi guys

A week ago my g/f's Optiplex 755 was working fine then when she pushed the startup button the amber flashing light came on so she waited for 10 to 15 minutes when her desktop appeared normally, later on she turned the pc off the next day the same thing happened but it took 25 to 30 minutes for the desktop to appear with the green startup button, the following day it took 45 minutes same thing happened after waiting while the amber light was still flashing the green light appeared once again so for the past few days shes been leaving the pc on and transferring all her files on on a removable disk.

The number 2 light appears when shes on her desktop and the green startup button is green, she now fears if she turns it off the desktop it wont appear again so I cant tell ya what lights appears on her startup, she as no pci card installed and hasn't changed anything

Hoping to find a solution to her problem  and that its not her motherboard !

Thank you

Rick

This looks like the right one.  Not easy find.  Had to manually type out "power supply" instead of "psu."  https://www.newegg.com/p/1A0-002Y-00708?&quicklink=true

Amazon has correct PSU's, they are off-brand, and therefore I won't trust them.

First the SATA 3 problem.  If nothing is connected to it, just go into BIOS and turn it off.

755 BIOS doesn't exactly work automatically when devices are connected.  When it doesn't work, SATA ports need to be manually turned on or off.

Thank you bradthetechnut for all the info, so my only option is to return the non connector cabled PSU to Newegg and ask for an exchange for a cabled one, but it is kind of negligent for them to advertise two different models with the same part #

When I swapped my own PSU on my g/f's Dell all connectors where the same identical psu model

So when I drive back to see her I'll check the bios and see about the Sata3 although I did reconnect all the cables as they previously where, so let you know when that's done.

Thanks again Brad and a happy Thanksgiving to ya

You're welcome.

I see what you mean by that there's 2 different photos of the linked PSU.  So is the one you received the one in the 1st photo? Not sure what you meant by "non connector cabled PSU"?

"...Ive been trying to figure out where my connector cables are ?"  "So can you tell me if that's the wrong psu, or if I need the one with the cables appearing,..."

Did you end up with a modular PSU?  (The type that has no cables coming out, but instead, cables being used are plugged into it.)

Hi Brad

Yep the one I received as no cables, when I saw the first and following pictures I figured it was the same psu with some kind of optional connection for just those cables, so seeing I never had seen that type of psu I wondered to myself wheres the Fn wiring seeing in the pics there was the one that I needed ''with cables''

So Monday I'll call Newegg Canada and get an explanation as to why there showing 2 different models with the same part number and ask for an exchange and that I'm not responsible for the postage fees, after paying $113 for what I assume is refurbished, for half that price I could have bought a used complete Optiplex 755

Ok thanks for the info Brad

I was just checking and found this one it seems to be the same so what do you think

I don't have much choice but to deal with Newegg Canada only

Yeah I know about it being sold by a 2nd party from what I can see there the ones with all the Dell psu's, although regarding the add that should be on Newegg shoulders. Sold and shipped by: The Best Part Inc

Newegg might say responsibility falls on the seller for uploading the photos.  You just bought the item and hopefully have no trouble returning it

At least the PSU I linked shows as new and as genuine Dell, though sold by a 2nd party.

Newegg actually stayed in Canada when  I started with your link.  I've tried Amazon Canada before and it reverts back to the U.S. on me.

The PSU I linked above is for the 755 & 745, same price as the one you linked.  The one you linked is for the 760 & 960.  I wouldn't be willing to chance it in a 755 not knowing what I might run into if I can get one specifically for the 755.

Unless the link worked differently from your location, it's the correct PSU.

Could you please upload photos of the PSU you received?  Be sure to include the power label and where the cables are suppose to attach.

I've also seen it on ebay or something like that where it just shows the box, no wiring harnesses - supposedly for the 755.  Didn't make sense to me.

Hi Brad

The link you provided shows a more rectangular model instead of the cube shape one I need, I haven't called Newegg yet but reading on the the 2partie where the psu came from for a return or replacement the time delay is 90Days plus I got to pay the shipping ''what a crock'' I feel like taking the $113 as a loss then spend my time turning in circles with them, I always bought my computer parts from a corner store but unfortunately there closed now at least I could see the parts before buying...

But I was wondering if maybe you knew where I could possibly buy the wire harness that would fit into the psu I received ?

Thanks again

The harness you linked is the right one, but it sold already.  I couldn't find another one on ebay.  Unless you bought it already?  May be you will have better luck if you check ebay again.

Pricey, but I did find another one:  https://www.cpumedics.com/dell-py536-wiring-harness-for-power-supply-t553c/?utm_source=googleshopping&utm_medium=cse&_vsrefdom=adwords&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIp_ze5e2b7QIVEWyGCh1-awBIEAQYASABEgLnk_D_BwE

Now that you know what it's suppose to look like, hopefully you find a good deal on one.

What a load that your PSU was pictured with a wiring harness and didn't come with it.  Makes me wonder if you could email the seller and make them send you a harness.
